The samsung by far beats that viewsonic, they have the same refresh rates GTG and the viewsonic is only 650:1, and the samsung is 700:1 static, and 2000:1 dynamic. The image quality of the samsung is much better than that of the viewsonic, and its one of the new panels from Samsung, although I dont believe the samsung has height adjustment where the viewsonic does. So if that is a factor then Samsung might not be for you.

I find that for me, between Samsung and Viewsonic, it comes down to the anti-glare filter.

My Samsung 204b has richer, deeper color, but the glare screen is a bit darker and more obvious.

My Viewsonic 2030b has a much thinner type of glare screen, so text and some things look a bit "crisper", but the colors are washed out and bland by comparison.

So, for everyday desktop work, I like the Viewsonic better. For gaming, Samsung is my preference.

But, I use a CRT because it is the only one that gives me both.

Keep in mind Samsung made quite a few new changes with their newer piano black finish monitors. Enhanced specs, improved old things, and just made a great overall monitor depending on what you get. In this case I would go with the Samsung for the superior contrast ratio, since neither have height adjustment.

The new panels from Samsung all have a piano black glossy finish. If youve ever looked at a nice piano its generally very black with a high gloss to it, well thats how all the new Samsungs are.

Like heres my 226bw/

You can just barely see the gloss to it, but all their new monitors look like that 226bw, compared to the matte black finish they used to be in.

Mind you thats not the best picture of that monitor, there was a flash on because the room is kind of dark all the time because it only has a big bay window about 50ft away.

I've seen those screens on laptops and also in stores. I just can't handle them. I much prefer anti-glare LCD's.

Not many screens come antiglare that ive seen....and if they do they dont have very good specs, I dont think any highend LCD has antiglare on it. That Viewsonic would be the first with antiglare ive seen in any monitor ive bought, or seen in stores or online.

In fact, I dont think any Samsung comes antiglare, because it is generally not needed on an LCD as they produce very little to begin with. I dont like the antiglare stuff, it gives a crappy picture, its not as vibrant and whatnot in gaming and video playback. Im not really sure about the glare you see that hurts your eyes

Viewsonic 2030B, the $450 LCD that I have, has anti-glare. The Samsung 204b ($350) has anti-glare. The Macintosh Cinema displays have anti-glare. My 24" iMac has anti-glare. Yeah, some of the Apple laptops have that shiny screen thing, but you can also buy Apple laptops that have a "matte" screen, which has the anti-glare filter.

I was in a pub this weekend and they had 4 big screen TV's - 2 had that shiny coating and 2 had anti-glare on them. Nobody could watch the 2 that had the shiny coating because of the glare from the sun and from internal lights. Nascar looks nutty with glare.

The Pub owner was saying that they got talked into buying them from the vendor guy and is going to make him take them back and replace them with the standard anti-glare model like the other two. Bottom line is, customers complained like crazy and he was kinda mad that he bought into the hype about them being "so much clearer" and what not.

The High Gloss Samsung TVs and Monitors i've seen don't have glare at all on them, hell even with the sun directly beating on them, they still look pretty damn bright and clear.

The outside has the high glass casing as well, the only problem with this is that they get dirty very quickly and are exceptionally hard to clean.

I think your planet and my planet are very different, Judas.

I swear - they were all GLAREY

I have my buds Acer laptop for testing and that screen is all GLAREY too.

I'm not making this up.

So, we must be on alternate worlds.

My Spock has a Beard - does yours?

Ive never had glare on them, even with the flash from the camera hitting them theres little to no visibile flash on the screen.... Id like to see one that did though.
