pci help

i just got a new gpu (a nividia 6600 oc) and i got another one for free! i would like to put it in but we have only 1 pci-e card slot i was wondering if there was a way i could split my 1 pci-e sot into 2. or will i need a new motherboard?? please help!!

I think you need SLI motherboard. What cpu you have in use?

Welcome to DH.

You only have one choice,you will need to switch to a SLI motherboard if you want to make the most out of 2 graphics cards.

EDIT: I forgot to mention there may be a possibility you will need to swap you're cpu also.And a smaller chance of the ram you use also.

i just wanted to say [COLOR=#9D750A]temeteus82[/COLOR] that i have a pentium d 2.80 Ghz cpu.
just another quick question, what would you recomend as a good affordible motherboard??

nForce4 SLI Intel Edition is the chipset what you are looking for. MSI got it's P4N line so you might look at it.

the nForce4 boards are discontinued and hard to come by, most i seen were above $100..... i think he should go with a 650i board as they are great for the future if he wants to get a Core 2, and supports the Pentium D still

I've heard bad things about the 6xx series of boards having problems and such but if they've ironed out the issues with BIOS fixes and such I'd be interested to know.

If he can find an nF4 board he'd be best off with that, since its discontinued he can probably pick one up at a good price anyway.
