CDs - I got a significant improvement when I dropped the TCCD with lower timings and higher speeds. I'm using a Northwood and reckon that your fps and 3DMarks would be higher than mine with the TCCD installed. My bottleneck should negatively impact more than yours but my scores are touch higher atm.

i upgrgraded from my TCCD chips because it was a 1Gb kit. i'm not too sure what chips my 2Gb kit has, but the default timings are pretty tight for 1Gb sicks (2-3-2-5). i've tried OCing w/my 2Gb kit before, and i didn't get very far.

If you search really hard you probably could get another 1GB kit. Took me a month searching on the net during January to find my 2x1GB kits.

well, i've been searching just now, and i came up on a s478 3.4Ghz EE
. $250 USD though....not sure how much of an improvement that would be over my current 3.2Ghz prescott though. it would however, diminish the CPU bottleneck further for my new gfx card .http://www.starmicro.net/detail.aspx?ID=556 |

you have a good point there Dyre. but the next system i'm going to build will cost me roughly $2500. i figure it's cheaper for me to spend $250 and expand the overall lifespan of my computer a little longer. Besides, after i build my next machine, i think it'll be cool to say that my "server" has an x1950pro
. whoever listens, doesn't have to know it's AGP though .besides, i could still sell my 3.2e to make up for some of the cost of purchasing that EE, that is, if i were to buy that EE. the 3.2Es are going for about $100 on eBay. i'm sure i could get about that as well. but you're right. too much money already spent on an AGP system for what would then be a minor gain. i could have just saved the money and spent it on my next machine, but that won't be for a while to come. i still have to take care of other things. i've gotta build machines for other people, which i'll be taking care of the tab (i'm too nice), and i've also got to take care of my other responsibilities as well. so for now, $250 on a gfx card has been well spent IMO. |
