USB software

I am looking for software to test my USB connections if possible. Both for speed and for if there is any loss of "packets" in some way.
Reason for this is I am thinking (again) to get an external USB hard drive and I don't like the idea of having problems with data copied over there.
I have found a nice 1TB external USB drive from Iomega for the same price as 2 internal 500GB disks so it is very tempting.
Anyway, any suggestions?

Sandra 2007 test suite has the ability to benchmark USB storage devices.... Under the benchmarks section, make sure you have the latest update for it too.

Just be carefull of which Iomega 1TB box you get. Some are actually 4x250GB drives in RAID 0, and the box is usually warrantied for 1 year. You're better off getting an external box, say one from Vantec, and using a drive that has a long warranty on it, like one from Seagate. Hell.. it'd probably be cheaper too.

One of the reasons I went with this D-Link DNS-323 NAS storage box is that I can put in any SATA drive I want (up to 2), of sizes up to 750GB each (so far.. each new firmware update increases that support) in Single, RAID 1/0, or JBOD mode. The only limitations so far is that you still have the buy a drive for it (so you're paying $200 for the box, and another $100+ for a decent sized drive), and it's speed is based on your ethernet connection. However, the great thing is that the box has 10/100/1000 ethernet support, so if you have a gigabit setup, your laughing. The fact that it can act as an FTP/Media/Print server is the thing that sealed the deal for me.
