I hope you really enjoy it, since I'm buying basically the same stuff very soon :)

I've really made my current one last; only bought a single HDD since 2004.

Is a antistatic wristband really necessary?

I'm the same. A few years ago, when I was working for a computer company, I would have to plug my wristband straight into the electric socket. Now I just earth myself to the case with my hand or arm or something and be done with it. Never had any problems.

earthing yourself?

try touching one of your leg on a casing which doesnt have any of those plastic leggings...

or simply just stand rooted to the ground with both feets apart...

but i doubt neither of those would work, since after a few years of working with electronics, i havent fried any with static...

Same. Make sure the PSU is plugged in and turned off though, that's what the ground plug is for.

i'll switch off the PSU, and pull out the power line. then i'll touch the case.

i honestly don't feel comfortable touching anything with the power line still in the PSU. if there was an adapter to have it just be the ground line going into the PSU, then yea, i'd do it.

Nice rig, you may want to upgrade the cooling if your going to get into OCing it Other than that looks like a solid system.

I just got that same case about a month ago and I love it, but the blue power led on the front of the case is the brightest damn led I've ever seen. It lights up my bedroom at night to the point that I needed to put a black CD case in front of it .

Yea.....I don't think I'll be ripping the front panel off my new case to yank any LEDs out. I was just saying it's bright.

And I gave you a way to solve that problem most effectively. A simple thank you would have sufficed

i have so many miscellaneous lights from my computer, monitor, mice, speakers, DSL modem, router, scanner, satellite receiver, and sometimes my cell phone, that i would need many black CDs .

i've gotten used to all the lights in my room....

Your call, keep in mind that if the PSU isn't plugged in, the case isn't grounded, so touching it isn't going to do much.

well...... the way a ground works is that the static is discharged into anything that is not charged...... the ground in a wall socket, running water, a big chunk of metal not anywhere near the case.......

when a computer is plugged in and switched off, the ground is still operational so you're safe if you're in a room full of carpet or something..... my room is nearly all wood and paper so i have less to worry about with static build up on my body.

thats why grounds are connected to a big copper tube sunk to the earth or connected to your water mains
