Recommendations for rackmounts?

Hey all,

I'm looking to switch all of my computers and networking gear over to a rackmount system. I found some decent cases on Newegg, but I don't know where to start looking for the racking or the cabinents. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any particular size? 1U, 2U, 3U, 4U? ATX, BTX?

My advice: if you plan on using standard parts then stick with either a 3U or 4U case, such as Antecs Take 3/4 Quiet, or Stuido cases (which are cheaper by $100 than the Take 3/4s), or even Chenbros RM line. I know that NCIX sells the cases directly (although not many brands, they do sell those ones I mentioned), as does TigerDirect, but you will need to find a place that sells the racks/cabinets. My advice on those would be to stay away from the open frame ones UNLESS it's made of good quality steel as most of the cheap ones are made from aluminum.

Yeah, one was definitely going to be made from standard parts (my desktop), but I have a feeling that the others might be low powered VIA systems (making a router and a file server). However, I will still probably need a decent size case for the file server, since it will have multiple drives in it.

I'm more worried about finding decent racks to mount it on, but I'll find something sooner or later. Thanks!

H3X4D3C1M4L will become famous soon enoughH3X4D3C1M4L will become famous soon enough

You could make one if you had enough steel and time and an arc welder.

Other than that why not try contacting the OEM directly... retailers don't usually stock this stuff... though there is a place near me locally that has a TON of this stuff. If you lived near me you'd be rockin' out with a rackmount already
