My opinion on new features in AOL8 Plus

Toolbar
The new toolbar is visualy better than the previous one, however a lot of the old features and pull-down menu buttons are gone. For example in AOL 8 you used to be able to access your FTP space (which is included with your AOL account) from Service>Internet>FTP, now this seems to have been removed. The only way I've found to access it is by typing FTP in the keyword box.

Buddy List
The new buddy list is basicly the same as the old one except for the Recent Buddies group. If you've recently contacted someone via an instant massage or someone has contacted you, their screen name will kept under this tab for a few days.

Download Manager
The new download manager is again basicly the same as the previous one except now you have to highlight all the files you want to download before you click finnish download. Before it would download all the files in the manager automaticly.

Sign On Screen
Same as previous one except with a new visual style.

Password Vault
The password vault stores you passwords for online sites (i.e. your login password for your email account) so that you don't have to retype it.

That reminds me... haven't got any coasters from them anymore recently My actual coaster looks already quite dirty... before, they'd send me a new coaster at least once a month, packaged in a nice crystal case, but now...

Yes, that's quite well-known by now. AOL CDs have subliminal messages to worship Satan when played backwards. But what's even far worse, if played forwards, they will install AOL!!!

If you have an AOL account, simple type AOL keyword: beta, then follow the links. I have the file on my PC, if someone wants to host it I'll upload it.

Edit: BTW, it's 50.5Mb.

I have a question for the people who don't like AOL.

When was the last time you tried it?

I don't think you are going to get very many people here to agree with you that AOL is any good. Last time I had the misfortune to use AOL was last year on my girlfriend's mom's computer- It is a web browser for noobs and grandmothers as far as I know. Usually when people realize that AOL is not all that there is on the internet they switch to an ISP that doesn't limit you the way AOL does.

It is way to expensive for the crappy service you get too- Ug, I can't even stand to think about how slow it was.

Dude the only reason i can see taht people use AOL is becuase then dont jack. I mean ya AOL puts everything you need right there in one browser. But so does windows .... you just have to know how to do it. and learn it. And most people are too lazy or stuborn to do so. I use InsightBB which is my cable providor for my cable access. Before we had access to cable i used a local ISP which man i really got some great speeds for 56K It was called LocalNet.

Don't put words in my mouth, I never said I liked AOL, nor do I want anyone to agree with me, I hardly use AOL.

Yeah, the only thing available is AT&T cable..... I'm very hesitant for that stuff. I live in one of those cities where everyone would get it.

Which in my opinon means AOL is overpriced! And that my extra 20 bucks is well worth the speed advantage i get. And i didnt even add in the price of the second phone line.

And for DSL you need a phone line, and for cable don't you have to have cable?

Yes, but not everyone can afford to double their monthly bills, and not every has access to broardband.

no, you don't have to have cable tv, but if you don't have cable tv it costs a couple extra bucks a month (at least ATT does)
