I have an MSI KT3Ultra-2 with onboard raid. I have never the utilized the RAID element of the MoBo, because I have never felt the need for an array.
However I saw an article in a PC publication here in the UK today which suggested that it is possible to utilize the channels without using an array. So my question is, would it be possible for me to put my two hard drives, DVD drive and CD_RW on individual channels by using the two RAID connectors on my MoBO?.

Well, I think you can only use RAID for hard drives.

I think you definitely should be able to use them as regular IDE channels-most boards let you do this. Just make sure the controller is on in the bios.

Correct - the RAID controller generally has poor compatibility for any optical devices - especially writers!
Enable the controller in BIOS, and if there's a choice of RAID mode, select JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) - I'm not kidding, you often find that as the term for a RAID controller that isn't using any RAID mode. |
