cpu cooler?
i'm upgrading my system to a E6600, together with asn Asus Commando motherboard and some corsair twinX 2g ram (5-5-5-12 and not the C4).
Now I'm wondering what cooling i shall put on there, and i plan to do some overclocking... i was thinking about the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, but heard there were some loud sound issues... what do you guys suggest for me to take, without paying too much.. best bang for bucks kinda thing. about 25 euros, which is about 30-33 dollar..

Ive used an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, whoever said it had audio issues must have virgin ears that have never heard people whispering...That fan is quite as a church mouse, and is more than ample cooling for a E6600 @ 3.2ghz 400x8
![]() Will idle around 40-50C load wont go over 60C if all is well. Also depends on your ambient temps.... (IE Room Temp, Case Temp) That being said, why not check out a P35 based mobo, the P965 is quite old, and the P35s are very promising. Especially since your paying Commando prices which are still in the $200 realm, and the P35 has 1333mhz FSB support, as well as a better memory controller and is a bit more stable. |

already bought it.. read some reviews of the board that said it was quite good, and overclocked pretty nice too.
Should i just keep it, or try to return it to the store and exchange it for the P5K Deluxe (the first board that caught my attention with P35) So, the AF 7 Pro it will be.. bought some AS5 too, so it will cool pretty good i guess.. edit: i just read this; 'With the February 7th BIOS update (version 0803), the Commando can now operate with CPUs using the 1333 FSB.' edit2: i think i'll just keep the commando.. i don't have to have the best of the best. and the commando is still pretty high-end and a much better board then the A8N-E i had.

If you can take the Commando back i'd definitely recommend it also. Something with a P35 chipset will OC just as good if not better.

Going Insane.....

get the Gigabyte P35 DQ6 or ASUS P5K Deluxe
the better choice is the Gigabyte as the cooling is far superior and the layout is just better because nothing gets in the way of the ports.... i hear they didnt properly heatsink a few things on the Deluxe(something about mounting stuff on the back without a heatsink thats needed) dunno if it was the Deluxe or another P5K board..... thats why i try to steer clear of ASUS mobos just so i dont have to go nuts there are more PCI-E x1s too so if possible, get the P35 DQ6 if they have it

i'm able to return it... first thing i'm gonna do monday
![]() and they haven't got the DQ6. Holland is always a bit behind with pc hardware.. thx for theheads up chaos. the latency difference of the ram, 5-5-5-12 vs 4-4-4-12, will that be noticable when overclocking?

hmmm, seems i'm stuck with those C5 ram. They had to order it specially for me, so i cant cancel that order (nor exchange it for the C4 ram). Ill see how good it'll OC.
Ah well.. it isnt bad ram, just a pity its not C4... wondering though, is that C4 not just factory 'overclocked'? cos it seems to me they are just the same except for the tighter timings.. edit: Has anyone got an advice on what ddr2 ram to get?

The CAS5 stuff may very well be able to do 4-4-4-12, just it wont be guaranteed by corsair, and it may need more voltage to do so. Theres lots of things to consider when your deciding what ram to buy. EDIT: If your looking for midrange ram.....Corsair 6400C4PRO or 8500C5D (Dominator Modules)......They are both great clockers, also check out some of the OCZ stuff...Although I only exclusively use corsair
