??? CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade...

Hello,

Its that time again, my current CPU/Mobo/RAM setup is over a year old so it time for an upgrade

Also just got a Radeon 9800 Pro so i wanna get the most of it

I am running a P4 1.8Ghz 100FSB, Abit BD7-RAID and 512Mb DDR PC2100

Not sure what to upgrade to.

Do i get an AMD or Intel now, or wait for month or 2 and get the new Intel Caterwood with a 800FSB P4

Dont wanna spend more than £500

Heres what i have in mind,

AMD
Epox 8RDA+ nForce2
AMD Athlon "Barton" XP2800+ 333FSB
Corsair 512MB DDR XMS3200 TwinX (2x256MB) Platinum CAS2

£409 inc. vat

Intel
Asus P4G8X Deluxe "Granite Bay"
Intel Pentium 4 'Northwood' 2.66BGHz (C1 Stepping)
Corsair 512MB DDR XMS3200 TwinX (2x256MB) Platinum CAS2

£494 inc. vat

Which would you have, or should i wait ?

Thanks

I would upgrade to the P4G8X and the XMS RAM, as for the CPU you could always overclock it. The 1.8A is an awesome overclocker.

But if he has the Wilmette core it will not overclock that much. Northwoods overclock much better.

AMD is bang for the buck... You can get a 1700B or a 2100B and get between 2.2 - 2.4ghz ..... 2700-3000 performace.

Of course, he could wait for the Intel i875P chipset to come out...

I see it beneficial to overclock. You can buy a decent mobo and a relatively inexpensive processor and get speeds that you'll pay 2-3 times as much for on the processor.

Ha, doesn't wanna overclock but bought an overclocking board . I know shuki. He might if he wants to. You'll love that new rig. Did you already buy that ram? Cuz unless you are running a server or doing CAD drawings there isn't much need for 1GB of ram

He was talking about his old setup when he said that . . .
He meant he wants to get a new system, not overclock his old one.
