YOUR Opinion, 8800GTX or HD 2900XT 1GB
i am wondering what you would choose at the moment if you had the choice between the two cards, which do you think would be better performance wise and why?
i know the 8800GTX is far superior as of now, but the HD 2900XT is far superior to it in terms of specs as it has the GDDR4, 1Gb of it, a 512 bit memory interface, 320 pixel processors and all that stuff while the 8800GTX has GDDR3, a 384 bit bus, 768mb memory, and 128 Pixel processors.... could the problems with the AA/AF be eliminated through drivers? could the overall speed and useful life increase with the new drivers. i am asking this right now because newegg has the MSI HD 8800GTX OC for $499 and the Sapphire HD 2900XT 1GB OEM for $489, the cost is really nothing then...

8800GTX by a mile. Maybe if it was between a GTS and the XT I'd recommend the AMD card. Drivers will improve for both cards but the GTX will be faster and both have far more ram than they actually need.

HOLD THAT THOUGHT!!!
Until I get my 2900XT 1GB Extreme Edition...I will post, and you can see how it compares to the 8800GTX ![]() Remember this is the 825/2200mhz version, not the 742/2000mhz stock version....they are cherry picked cards from Extreme PC canada..... wait for my results

i vote g80
. i'm probably biased towards that, but current tests, AFAIK, show the g80 ahead in the majority of tests. then, remember, there's the 8800Ultra, you can pick one of those or an OCed version of the Ultra .i mention the Ultra, not because it's an OCed version of the g80, but because of it's slight modifications, it can OC higher than what your standard g80 can .

I wouldn't install that AMD card even if it was for free. (I would sell it).
More power consumption, more heat, less speed. What is the point?

when i was reading online, i noticed that there was almost no difference in speed to the 512mb version, it actually scored worse on some tests! but i am thinking that since the drivers dont officially support the extra memory that there could be some fixes that separate the 1GB 2900XT's from the rest....

I think by about the 7.10 cats, we'll see not only major fixes implemented for the 2900, but potential speedups.... not to mention a refresh... heres hopen chaos has good luck with the card.

looks like a good start
this morning i was about 100 bucks away from placing an order for x2900xt..... but i cut myself off.... I should really see if i can do a trade in exchange of some sort with a ati's trade in program. Get both of the x1900's replaced with x2900's.

Only if you are going for the 1GB cards, the 512mb cards are still $175 cheaper, and i don't think they perform that much better.

I prefer to get Built By ATI unmodified versions.

1GB cards operate at higher graphics/resolution much better....
Actually Judas, the one I have is all ATI branded... the company modified the bios and warranties it

The 1GB ones are the ones i've really interested in, 2560x1600 requires a fair bit of oomph

not a hiccup in OCing either, would be nice to have voltage control and then maybe get 900 stable. Needs aftermarket cooling as well.

I never said that, my money is on the HD2900XT 1GB when the dust settles....
Driver revisions have been great thus far for it. Its only a bug with PCMark05...

even with the x1900's in CF, i can't get PCmark05 to preform at all decently on any machine yet, the results are always 1000x worse in some specific tests... it's strange.. i don't worry about it though...
Plus i still haven't gotten PCMark05 to work under any x64 OS
