Intel Core 2 Duo in consideration.
Hi all been along time since i needed to ask for a little advice before i order my new parts for my pc.
Ok as you will see the most of my current set up and i now think it may be time to upgrade to a intell core 2 Duo set up.Seeing as my current mobo (abit AG8) is already at the max it can hold.. (CPU Etc) bios updated and is actually no longer supported by abit. Even though i have a 3.0G hyperthreading cpu,is a Intel Core 2 DUO LGA775 E6600 @ 2.40GHz going to be an improvement? Im looking into a set up like this one.Bare in mind my GC/PSU and case are going to be reused. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) The Mobo supports ATI CrossFire Graphics.is there any problem using a Nvidia 7900GTX on this board..if so would like a suggestion of a decent gamers motheboard. I may be ordering towards the weekend so any suggestions or comments will be appreciated asap. Im on a budget so i can't strech to far form roughly £350. Now with another search of a couple of stores there has been quite an overlook in some details. And i can just about stretch to the additional £70 difference. Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) (£80 id like to go to much better memory but i can't stretch to that) Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 "LGA775 Conroe" 3.00GHz (1333FSB) (£176) Intel Extreme D975XBX2KR BAD AXE 2 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£145) The prices are from one onlins store.but once i have a deffinate set up ill look around for better prices if possible. I don' oc so thats not an issue.I also want to upgrade to windows vista also, which is a partial reason to the upgrade...Vista runs poorly on my current pc. What do you think of that alteration to details. Last edited by MIG-31; Aug 1, 2007 at 07:40 PM. |

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 "LGA775 Conroe" 3.00GHz (1333FSB) (£176) those two with a decent gamers mobo? Now as you say stick with the P35 chipset, thats just widened the choices... Overclockers P35 Choices (i may not be using oc for the purchase). Last edited by MIG-31; Aug 1, 2007 at 08:59 PM. |

Thats upped the price by £2
over the last listing.Mind you when i have split my current pc and ebayed them...this should at least pay for part of the new set up.Now that board looks like its going to give me everything i need..May actually have enough usb connections to do away with my external usb hub.I've used asus before so no problems with that.. Im getting close to deciding already. If i get the order in tonight i should have these delivered by friday. Last edited by MIG-31; Aug 1, 2007 at 09:19 PM. |

Mig buddy I got a quadcore Q6600 from ocuk on saturday for £175 and a Asus P5N32-E Plus for £115.00, they also always have the 2GB Geil Ultra PC6400 for not much more than £60.

I should run just fine. Since I'm not having any issues with it and my specks are "out-of-date"

Hi temeteus82
i offer my upmost thanks to you mate...that motherboard you picked out is a great board.I have not fully tested the setup yet.Seeing as Fear is the only game i have installed currently which runs as smooth as silk.Windows vista has jumped from 4.1 to 5.7.So far it looks like Vista is now going to be my os from now on. (thanks to those who replied to my opening thread also). |

Looks like a killer system
ONLY thing i would've done is go for the Q6600 since its 4 cores and even a few $ Cheaper.

I overlooked this..seeing as i only seen the Kentsfeild first which retails at around £570 before vat. (that may of put me of looking at quad cores). But so far im pretty pleased and i have no complaints...Now in the next day i will be installing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.If this runs smoother than before i will be extremely pleased. |

a couple of weeks ago Q6600 would cost more if you have bought it back then, but now Q6600 and E6850 are at about the same prices.
there could be that people are now considering buying Q6600 over E6850, because Q6600 seems to have a better value for the money. and besides that an E6750 (2.66GHz) for quite less money (compared to E6850 3.0 GHz) can be ran at 3.2-3.3GHz, a good board should handle it using all stock volts, include VCore (1.275V), PCIe, FSB and MCH (1.25V). E6750 will then operate quite a bit faster than an E6850 running at stock clock speed, already. however, as long as you are happy with buy, most of all, that is what counts. speaking of overclocking the Q6600, i think, some people who have Q6600 still have hard time overclocking the processor pass 3.8GHz, if there are some kinds of limit, a better board, and better system cooling won't help. i think it's okay if you want to see if it can run at 4.0GHz, but just having it at 3.6Ghz, the system should be under no pressure much and it should be a good overclock results for the Q6600 already. |

hah lol, as seeing you like to overclock computer, i'm just wondering how many times you have regretted buying a processor, memory modules, or other hardwares like motherboard, power supply for this matter, that later found out it won't be overclocked well at all?
