AGP voltage question

Ok, I've been having a ton of lock ups recently and was a little curious about this increasing of the AGP voltage to help solve some of these problems. I would like to give this a shot but dont want to fry my card. The BIOS currently has the voltage at 1.5 and the next step up would be 1.8. Would bumping the voltage up to 1.8 be too dangerous....in other words how dangerous is this or would I need to increase it even further to see a change? Thanks.

How about some system specs please. That would help out a bit

The Specs:

Gigabyte GA7VRX Socket A motherboard
AMD AthlonXP 2100+ retail (not overclocked or ever attempted to overclock)
80GB Western Digital Hard Drive
40X16X48 CD-RW
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
Radeon 8500 64MB Retail (catalyst 3.2 installed)
WindowsXP Home Edition (SP1 and all critical updates installed)

I copied that from the thread about my shutdown problem....(I'm still messing around with that)

You will not gain any performance by raising the Vagp, but it could definitely help with stability. It won't hurt to run the card at 1.8v, but I recommend you try 1.6 or 1.7v first if possible.

Well from what I've done I've seen no stability increase.

I changed the Voltage to 1.6 then 1.7 then 1.8.....and nothing helped. I'm going to end up buying a new card sometime (hopefully soon-next paycheck or so).

Since I didnt find anything out, hopefully someone else knows more about this and can help you out Maxwell1234.

when i clock my GF to a higher memory or core clock frequency, the graphics sort of like freeze for a few seconds......................does AGP voltage has something to do with this?? can i fix the problem by increasing the AGP voltage??

nope

unless youre overclocking your Front Side Bus then it could help since you would be overclocking the AGP bus as well

but if you are just overclocking the card then no it wont help stability

if it is set too high then yes possibly

but for the most part if you only bump it up .1 or .2 it wont hurt anything

when you o/c the Front Side Bus you are also pushing the AGP from its default 66Mhz up to 67, 68, + area and some video cards dont like having the AGP bus overclocked unless you raise the voltage to add stability
