Lost driver for cd and dvd writer

Hi,
During install after clicking the checkmark and reading the following instructions my screen went blank and now I am unable to use my cd/dvd player writer. It is a Matshita UJ-840D. All I have for sound is the old fashioned BEEP.

Did you reinstall the operating system when you did this?

CD/DVD drives typically don't need a driver beyond the ATAPI interface driver that every operating system since way back has come with. It sounds more likely that you've reinstalled the system and Windows doesn't know what to use for a sound driver.

If I could get a model number on your laptop I'm certain I could Google and find you the file you'll need to get sound back without much trouble.
