Epson Printers waste ink, cost too much

I have an Epson 6400 inkjet printer and I put the settings to print black only and also in economy mode. This is the only way I use the printer it is to print checks. No matter what it always waste my colors of ink, always no matter where I set it in the options from their own driver , it still uses colors to make black I guess. Is there any printer that is worth the money that will make water proof printing? Is there a printer that doesnt steel money from you when you use it?

No. Don't know about Laser printers though.

About inkjet printers..at least while in the UK, it was cheaper to buy a new Printer than buy a set of inks for the current one.

I use Canons because their ink is a lot cheaper than Epson, Lexxmark, etc. Canons seem to cost a bit more, but you more than makeup for it with decreased ink costs.

My MP500 has TWO black ink carts. A large one for text and a smaller one for photo printing.

Kodak has recently entered the printer arena,, and one of the things they aare making a lot of noise about is the fact that they won't rape you on ink prices. I've not looked at them very closely, as I'm more than satisfied with my MP500.

Looks like Kodak stands to move the market to me. Ink is rediculously priced in the first place. When I use an aftermarket refill the printer always has a pop up that says to "use our epson brand rip off ink" but I click no to use my cheaper better printing ink and its over until next time I want to print something. Is there a hack of some sort to disable these types of pop ups?
