Looking for a new gfx card

i don't want to spend more than $200 (excluding any shipping and/or taxes). i was considering an 8600GTS, and EVGA has a 512Mb out which seems enticing, but it's still limited by a 128bit memory bus.

7 series cards seem impossible to find now, aside from eBay or open box from various retail or etail stores. so 7 series cards are out of the question pretty much.

320Mb 8 series cards are still over that budget, so those are out of the question.

so, i guess, my question is, if an NVIDIA based card is not in the picture, what good ATI cards are out there for the price range i'm looking for?

her current hardware to date:

CPU: Intel e4300
MoBo: Gigabyte 965p-DS3
RAM: G.Skill 2Gb DDR2 800 kit (2x1Gb) 5-5-5-15

GFX: *pending*
HDD: *pending* - likely 74Gb raptor (OS), 320Gb (game drive) and 500Gb (storage)
PSU: *pending*

I doubt any budget card you will get will offer much better performance than what you have now. Is it not possible to hold out a few more weeks for an 8800gts 320?

yes, this build is going to be for my gf.

i was also just thinking about buying her the EVGA 8600GTS, and waiting about 2 months then using the step up program to get her the 320Mb or the 640Mb 8800GTS depending on how the prices are by then.

I've had this PSU for 4 years now and it's still powering my system like it did in day one.

I think this will power my c2q rig in xmas
