Samsung 931bw - Drivers dont work! :(

Hello everyone.

I'm having major issues trying to get my Samsung Syncmaster 931bw to run at max resolution - 1440 x 900. The monitors OSD says its running at 1280 x 900, windows says the resolution is 1440 x 900.

Add to that the drivers on the CD are incorrect and i've got a real problem on my hands.

So far ive googled for the drivers and the only one ive found comes in at 56kb, which surely is wrong. I've tried installing these drivers and i get a message within a second telling me the drivers installed successfuly, but it clearly hasnt, as i have to scroll sideways (at 1440 x 900) to see the entire screen.

Maybe all i need is a link to the correct drivers? or its something more?

Thanks

ok, i tried it on my dads machine. plugged it in, installed drivers worked perfectly.

ive reformatted my entire hard drive to start fresh because i had made a mess of the drivers. i did exactly the same thing as i did on my dads pc

and im still getting the same problem. GRRR.

is there a sure fire way of getting rid of all the previous drivers or something? ive gone through device manager and pressed uninstall on the monitor

if the correct monitor is shown in Device Manager the correct driver is installed, you can go to the View menu and select Show hidden devices and remove the monitors that are grayed out.
and then you can go into the Display Settings and select the wide resolution you want.

thanks for the help. it works on VGA - the 1440 x 900 resolution. But im still having trouble through DVI. It has to be the graphics card because i tried it again on my dads pc, through DVI and he has a cheap-ass £30 graphics card and it was no trouble for it.

Ive done what you suggested and it doesnt solve the problem, There are no hidden devices there, just my samsung monitor and the correct name + correct driver installed.

its odd.

the drivers may have both SyncMaster 931BW (Analog) and SyncMaster 931BW (Digital). try the DVI connects again, and reinstall the drivers.

It's likely a graphics driver issue related to the DVI port....

you could try a DVI-VGA adapter, plug the monitor in using the adapter into the VGA of the monitor.. set the resolution... then quickly while everything is one, switch the dvi adapter out and hook directly to it using the DVI connection and see if the resolution retains itself.... (this likely won't work.. but things are strange sometimes)...
