Shwick is on a distinguished road

Gigabyte ga-965p-ds3 matrix raid setup problem

I have 2 x 250gb seagate sata drives plugged into the purple raid ports on my gigabyte ga-965p-ds3 motherboard. Both hard drives were tested
on another system and are working properly, the jumpers are removed and they are running at 3.0GB/s. The motherboard is rev 3.3 with
the latest bios, f12.

When I restart my computer I press ctrl+G to enter the raid utility and I want to create two raid 0 arrays, an 80GB and a 420GB. After I create
the 80GB array I can't create another one- I get the message "No Enough Disk For RAID". But clearly only 40GB per drive has been allocated.
Even when I select a drive and press enter the info box tells me the raid config is using 40GB.

Info Box:

Model: ST3250410AS
Serial: ***********
Firmware: 3.AAA
Capacity: 250GB

Channel: SATA Port 0
Transfer: UDMA Mode 6
Addressing: 48-bit LBA
Support 3G: YES
RAID Config: RDD0 40GB

I am able to delete the raid array but it still only lets me make one at a time.

I have my bios set up properly too I think- Onboard SATA/IDE Device is enabled, Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode is RAID/IDE and SATA AHCI Mode is Disabled.

Isn't this the point of matrix raid? Create multiple arrays, the first one being the fastest?

Has anyone else has this problem or know how to fix it?

Thanks

i think this might be a workaround to this problem in your case, so try this...
try configuring RAID array under the ICH8R RAID controller in BIOS using its RAID BIOS utility first, then later try configuring RAID array under the GIGABYTE SATA2 controller in Windows. and see if this will be possible to have both RAID array from both RAID controllers.

install the disk drives and config the system BIOS's...
2 x disk drives connected to 2 yellow SATA ports... SATAII0 and SATAII1 - connectors controlled by Intel ICH8R southbridge.
2 x disk drives connected to 2 purple SATA ports... GSATAII1 and GSATAII0 - connectors controlled by GIGABYTE SATA2 controller.

then turn on the computer, and enter BIOS setup program and go to Integrated Peripherals page...
and set following...

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode... Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Device... Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode... IDE

save and exit BIOS setup and reboot, then on the next boot enter Intel RAID setup utility and config RAID array... save and exit the utility... and then install Windows onto the RAID drive you just created.

then after the Windows is installed and running, within the Windows install Gigabyte RAID configurer or JMB36X RAID Configurer, and restart the computer... on the next boot enter BIOS setup program and go back to the Integrated Peripherals and reset the following... from Onboard SATA-IDE Ctrl Mode... IDE to Onboard SATA-IDE Ctrl Mod... RAID/IDE or RAID... then save and exit BIOS setup and reboot into Windows, and then try using the RAID configurer to config RAID. you may have to install the Gigabyte or JMB36X RAID's drivers using the Device Manager as well.

i don't have the same motherboard with you and can't remember all of steps i used to take, but anyways, try that.

soory for multiple posted. i can't edit the posted.

---------------------

however, i do remember i posted some info about this last year or so before, and it's somewhere in these forums, try searching the motherboard forum section, you might be able to find a better answer to the problem there.
