Removing pentium 4 heatsink retention module
Hi I'm about to replace one of these
Pentium 4 Socket 478 Heatsink Retention Module 8T065 what's the easiest way to remove the screws on this? |

those are not screws, they are plastic pins, and ones that are hard to remove, the best thing i can recommend is remove chunks of the brackets and cut the pins off.
then the new retention bracket can be installed.

ok i used some pliers and got them out easily except for the last one cuz had to hold down the thing while i pulled it out.
but now the main retention frame seems like it's stuck to the motherboard somehow. i have this one SOYO Group Inc - SY-P4VTE (Prescott-Ready) (Discontinued) And the other side I can see some black spikes sticking out Last edited by malva00; Oct 4, 2007 at 07:41 AM. |

the p4 bracket is a universal bracket.
how could the bracket itself be stuck to the board? the only way i can think of that is if the plastic actually melted on to the board, but that would also likely cause the motherboard to fail as well. |

my friend said i needed to squeeze the ends of the thing and push it out from the back of the motherboard
