DVI-D and new monitor

Hi guys first time here I read through a few post and I believe I'm at the right place. My problem is with a new Gateway Monitor I purchased, its the Gateway FPD2275W 22" Widescreen High-Definition LCD Flat-Panel Display: Connections Analog (VGA) / Digital (DVI) / Component / Composite / S-Video / (4) USB 2.0 Gateway Computers: Store - Gateway - FPD2275W 22" Widescreen High-Definition LCD Flat-Panel Display

I know you can plug almost anything in this monitor, which is good. Please bare with me for a second as I have a myriad of question for you guys. Firstly the highest resolution is 1680x1020. Is it safe to go beyond that say to 1920 x1080 for 1080p. Secondly my card is a Nvidia Geforce 6600 512mg PCIe with a Dual single-link DVI support the specs say in detail; DVI-I-29 pin combined DVI Xmdia Geforce 6600 product information what does that mean? My primary question is what type of DVI cable I should get to hook everything up. Should I just get a DVI-D cable because that’s what my monitor takes or a DVI-I that would fit into my card or do I have to get an adapter or something.

Thanks in advance I know so tech master is eager to help me out with this. Could you please post link to the cable I would need. Again thanks I’m a Graphics Designer so I'm sure you understand my need for exact color clarity.

You can't go beyond the LCD's native resolution that is in this case 1680x1020. DVI-I is the connector that has both DVI-D and DVI-A support so you can get the DVI-D cable to connect it to your display.

yeah native resolution is as good as it gets. I has to do with how many pixels you have in the monitor.
