Good Fast and quiet 8MB Cahce Hard Drive Suggestions

As the topic says, I need a new hard drive for my Nforce2 XPC, any sugestions?

Well naturally get the biggest drive you can afford. As for a name brand both Maxtor and Western Digital or great buys.
I would buy a Western Digital but, only because I own more of them than Maxtor. Maxtor is nice also because it supports ATA133 but, if your board supports SATA then you could always buy one of those.

Can't go wrong with WD 8mb cache drives. In my experience they stay quieter longer than Maxtor's.

I have been leaning toward WD, in getting a larger 100GB+ HD I am worried about reliability. anyone have any problems with large drives?

Western Digital offers a 3-year-warranty for OEM 8Mb cache drives. As for retail I'm not too sure but, I'm sure it's at least 3 years. For reliability WD drives are very good, I have 3 and have never had any problems as far as data corruption, wear and tear, etc.

Yeah, i too would reccomend WD SEs. I love both of mine, that is for sure. Theya re fast,a nd quiet, and very reliable..

My next PC purchase is going to be a WD 120gig 8meg cache drive. Anything else is not enough.

Read in a number of places that the large capacity WD drives have been unreliable... Still, with the 3 year warranty that teh SE versions have, probably isn't that big a deal unless RMAing busted drives is a major hassle to you. That said, Im sure the great majority have no probs. Would probably get a WD in a heartbeat if they had fluid bearings.
One of the things Maxtors have going for them is the fluid bearing technology... Bearing whine burns my ass. Somewhere I saw that WD was starting to use fluid bearings, but haven't heard anything more about it. As far as I know, all the current WDs use regular steel bearings.
Got 2 Maxtor 40G and a WD 20G right now. I'd love to grab a huge capacity 8M cache drive, but its probably a better idea to wait until the SATA drives start getting popular and cheaper. Wont be too long before its time for a chipset/proc upgrade anyway - new mobos have built-in SATA...

western digital for NOW,

seeing as seagate and other manufacturers are new to 8meg cache, i'll stay to WD for now.

I have one, ITS REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY fast compared to my standard 2meg cache one.

I have 2 WD 80's 8 meg cache and they are great. I would stay away from IBM deskstars they have heat issues. I had to replace 2 of mine. the warranty had just expired how conveint
