LCD monitor issues!

I have a very strange problem with my LG L194WT 19" LCD monitor.

It will NOT run in 75hz (even though it's supported) in the resolution 1440x900 which is the right resolution for this monitor! If i increase the resolution, I am able to increase the refresh rate but then the picture is stretched off screen! I simply cannot increase the refresh rate to 75hz while in the resolution 1440x900 which is the right resolution for this screen! I even tried to trick it, change the resolution then change the refresh rate and then change the resolution back and it switches to 60hz again!

Any idea as to what is going on? I'm totally stumped here...
