Yeah I have also been looking at GSkill PQ PC2 8000. That could be a possiblity. Still undecided though whether to go for that or 4xGSkill HZ PC2 6400 or 4xBallistix PC2 6400. The price is more-or-less the same. The timings are good on the HZ. Overclockability on Ballistix beats the rest. And the 2xPQ PC2-8000 would cause less work to the memory controller. Still haven't made my mind up.

Anyhow, looking at the HDD the 7200.11 do have double cache, double the capacity and close to double the cost. Depending how long the delay is on receiving the 8800GT on the pre-order I could hold off making a HDD decision to see how my wallet is faring. (but may stick with 7200.10 regardless due to me me being a tight bugger).

I've got a Noisetaker II 600W that is only a few months old. That should be good enough power for the time being yes? Just a little bit worried if efficiency drops with age that it might not pack enough juice after another 6 months or so and if I start adding bits and pieces to the rig.

Thanks again for feedback.

600w is a good start, the 8800GT doesnt take anything and the quadcore only takes 95w or so, you should be fine

i may not look like i know what i was talking about, but you can test me, and so you don't just ignore it.
since the motherboard platform you are going to buy is P35-DS4, i sure know what i'm talking about.

you can only overclock the processor by overclocking the CPU Host freq (CPU FSB)...
once you increase CPU FSB, your memory clock speed will also get increased,
the platform chipset can only do as much with the memory ratio of 1:1 or 2.0x memory multi.
then when you increase CPU FSB (or just want to try and see) even more higher, the memory controller won't be able to handle 1GBx4, either memory clock freq, nor timings, any more.

not that, you cannot overclock your system with the DS4 if you are using 1GBx4 (2 sets of 2x1GB DDR2 memory kits). it's all depends on, how far you want to try overclocking the Q6600?, and a few more questions that may help you get to know your overclocking needs, know how to choose the right system memory beforehand.

anyways, do take your time with the decision.

I'm gonna go with the 2x2GB GSkill PC2-8000 PQ. It would seem pretty dumb to do anything else...

+rep to PangingJr & kris23 for your time and help

i wish i could test the kit for you, but it's just still selling for not quite resonable price (when compared to its price in the US.) due it's still very new model memory,
and i think the price should be adjusted down yet, otherwise i would buy this memory kit already.

here below is some info about the G.Skill PQ DDR2-1000 memory kit.

Thanks for the reviews PangingJr.

Did you remove the backplate from your ds4? Is it possible to remove the crazy cool backplate on its own and leave n/b, s/b and the rest of the crazy cool on the ds4? I'm asking as I'm wondering about aftermarket cooling.

i only have been experiencing with P35-DS4 rev.1.0, i have mine for like a half year or so now, a friend who have bought one about a month after me is also rev.1.0 board. there is only have 1 heatsink at the back of the board and it's around the area of northbridge chip.
i'm not sure about rev.1.1, 1.2 and rev.2.0 boards whether they have the Crazy Cool backplate for the CPU or other heatsinks or not.

I'm getting the 8800GT NOT the 8600GTS. The performance of the 8800GT is very close to that of an 8800GTX and will spank the 3850...
