What Keyboard/Mouse Do You Use for PC Gaming?
I'm curious to find out what our gamers are using when it comes to Keyboard/Mouse combinations.
Between PS/2, USB, and Wireless setups, which ones tend to provide the best response? (And, please, please, don't tell me anyone is still using a roller-ball mouse!! )

What I want to find out is this: Is there a big enough difference between the types of connections that would make one type of setup better than another? |

Well then .... USB connected Wireless mouse and keyboard from Logitech...
Anyway me thinks that the poll is what keyboard an mouse you use in your PC. Since most people in here has only one PC I don't see the point .. Unless you are one of the few people in here who has gaming rig and work rig

Yes. I would say that all Game reviewers haves rig what they use to test games
![]() And some other members that have access to "cheaper" parts since they work in the stores selling them... And then there are people like me that uses 2 to 3 years to save money to have nice upgrade and when they do it the next day it's already out of date...

My thoughts on:
Connection types: PS/2 is technically inferior, and not supported by new products, so no real point in using this in any case anymore. USB should, in theory, give less lag than wireless devices. In practice, I don't really notice a difference, I stick to wired stuff simply because I hate batteries, and tend to be sitting at my computer when I'm using it, as opposed to running around the room. Keyboards: I've never really shopped for a keyboard based on gaming needs, backlights, extra macro keys and LCD screens all seem gimmicky and annoying to me. I usually just go for the best typing keyboard, and hope gaming works well on it too. I'm a big fan of the tactile response of older style keyboards with real key switches like this one, but sadly, such keyboards are missing features I want, so I make do with mushy keys in exchange for more comfort/ease of use. Mice: Any good mice should work well, it's the player that matters, not the input devices, based on this, I'd choose a mouse mostly based on comfort. I use my mouse with either hand, so went with the Razer for the ambidextrous shape. I find high DPI is mostly important in keeping individual pixel accuracy on high resolution displays. Moving the mouse cursor across my 3520 pixel wide desktop is torture using as old 400 dpi mouse, and I could easily use more than the 2000 dpi that my mouse has. This is largely dependant on personal preferences for mouse settings (acceleration). If I had more time to actually play games, I'd probably look into getting a nice gamepad. Here's a great deal if you've got an xbox360 already. My current keyboard: Logitech Elite ![]() My future keyboard: Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 ![]() My current mouse: Razer Copperhead

Here is my mouse Logitech MX1000
USB wireless. Haven't noticed any "lag" or any other problems with it versus a corded mouse. It is extra super duper hyper DPI as some of the newer mice, but it works good enough for me for gaming etc. IMAGE REMOVED.(edit by BlueMak) My keyboard is a PS/2 Microsoft. I prefer it due to the simple design and small size for a full keyboard. I went out of my way to find a PS/2 proper keyboard instead of a USB with a PS/2 connector or just a USB. I have found PS/2 keyboards working better not only in the long run but also in some cases where the USB cannot be trusted fully. For example during installation of certain OSes or modes etc. For response times...I get 88wpm with this so...and no problems with games either.

I recently did try to use a wireless logitech dinovo edge/G7 combo but it was just not happening. To put it in simple terms, it was pure hell. I have since gone back to my logitech g15/mx518 combo and I am happy again. Of course only USB will do no matter what

USB is pretty much up there in performance these days. Almost as reliable as PS2 is. However, I always tend to have a USB to PS2 adapter handy though, just in case I need to do any bios or DOS work as USB isn't too reliable in those environments.
As for wireless, I've always found it to be an odd beast. I've had wireless mice that were utter crap, and had tons of lag (MS Bluetooth mice are notorious for this shit), some wireless that were spot on, but were too heavy, devices that dropped their connection, sometimes the mouse, or the keyboard, or both at the same time, and I've had the pleasure of using great wireless devices, but the receivers they came with... pure crap. What have I learned? Don't buy Microsoft wireless mice unless it's a laptop mouse. Yes they are light, but they are crap... both in build quality, and stability. Logitech mice are nice, and precise, but usually heavy. DON'T BUY BLUETOOTH MICE! Especially ones from Microsoft. Don't buy a wireless device that uses a proprietary battery. Don't use a wireless keyboard as your primary board as they can die at the wrong time without warning. Don't use a wireless keyboard for gaming. See above. Don't use wireless anything with a KVM switch. Wired IS better for gaming. Hell.. it's better for any precision work be it sniping or graphics editing. You get what you pay for. Limit how many wireless devices you use, cuz they ALL run on the same 2.4Ghz frequencies. Wireless routers/network cards, wireless mice, wireless keyboards, wireless controllers, remote controllers, bluetooth cellphones, wireless phones... all of it either runs on a set spectrum of the 2.4Ghz frequency, or jumps the spectrum (which is what Bluetooth does), and it all adds up. Something will not work, or not work consistently. |
