pete159 is on a distinguished road

Need new computer advice!

Hi!
My hard drive has bitten it!
I can spend about $1300 canadian, I need a great system for gaming and editing video from a camcorder and I'd like to watch TV on it also. My last system was a P4 3.0 ati x800AIW 2 gigs ram
It seems everything has changed the last few years, what should I be looking for these days.

I reckon you should definitely stick with Intel and base your system on socket 775 P35 chipset mobo (Gigabyte and Asus make good boards). The CPU would be either Core 2 Duo or Quad depending on how much you want to spend on any other components you require.

Don't get an AIW card. Thing of the past.
Get a nvidia 8800GT (no S or X) with a Core 2 Duo or Quad CPU. 4GB of RAM and Windows Vista home premium 64.
