Hey dudes
My brand new 6000+ processor is heating up a lot. I have fans blowing cool air in and hot air out of my case... but this processor is insane at Idle, it's at least 45c (usually even 48c) and after playing 1 hour of timeshift it's at 63 fricken degrees! Did I do something wrong during installation (I don't remember smudging the paste) or are these normal temps for a dual core 125W cpu? I just bought some OCZ Arctic Silver 5+ ... will that make a huge difference? thanks |

That's not really insane, if you're using the stock cooler, those are respectable temps. Thermal paste brand isn't going to make much of a difference as long as it's properly applied, maybe 1-2 degrees.

ah ok the guys over at AMD replied with pretty much the same thing.
they mentionned re-applying the ocz silver could make a difference what's got me worried is in their answer they say "63c is the limit where the processor auto-shuts down" ... maybe PC Probe is wrong... I just don't want my PC to crash after more than 1 hour of gaming. |

and if it fits on an Asus M2N-E MB and an Antec Sonata III case alongside my OCZ RAM Cooler then we're good to go

OCZ is recommending its Vendetta cooler... I've seen reviews and it seems to be amazing for a low price of 30 bucks...

yea its good, but OCZ really just takes old design coolers and remarkets them with minor tweaks and big price ups....
id recomend the Zerotherm nirvana as the best choice or Arctic cooling Freezer if you dont want to spend over 20 bucks.... the thermalright is best for a balance of performance and size if you have a small case, Newegg.com - Thermalright HR-01 PLUS CPU Heatsink - Retail you will be needing a good 92mm fan though
