New PSU - people with Antect P182 plz

Hey all,

I am planning a new pc for the new year and need a new PSU. I have an Antec P182 case and know that some of the power supplies are too long to allow continued user of the internal fan. I'd like to keep the fan if possible since I do have the hard drive area down there fully populated. I was looking at PSU's about 700Watt-ish. The 750W Corair looks good but looks long. (before anyone says I should keep the PSU in the sig, the plan is for it to go to the wife with the rest of my current kit!)

Can you recommend ones to look at for me please which will fit okay?

Thanks

Proposed PC:

Inter Core 2 Quad Q6600
BFG 8800GT OC2 SLI
4GB DDR2 1066 or higher speed
4 HD's (2 x 250 SATA, 1 x 500 SATA, 1x 80GB IDE)
Antec P182
Sony DVDROM
Samsun SATA DVDRW
Creative XFi Extreme Gamer

That's the plan anyway

why you wanna keep that PSU? it sucks......

I recommend the Tagan ITZ series in any size, they are all the same size and they all fit the alloted space as far as i know,

the Corsair 750TX is also a good small PSU, 750w, sinlge rail, and has 4 8-Pin PCI-e connectors.....

you do know that the actual model of hard drive is more important than the capacity...... i recommend the Seagate 7200.11s

your missing a motherboard, i recommend the ASUS P5e X38 board

the Q6600 has to be a G0 stepping (SLACR)

your 1066mhz memory should be Crucial Ballistix to be the best for the price

the BFG 8800GT is the best choice in that list

dont buy a Creative X-fi card, get the Auzentech X-Fi card, its much better.

oh bugger forgot the MBD, I was looking at thge EVGA Nvidia 680i jobbie actually. I havent looked at the X38 boards yet. Are they that much better?

I saw the G0 steppings listed on some hardware etailers but most just say the processor not the stepping.

I have no choice but to keep the PCP&C psu for the wifes machine, her current tagan is too weak.

*goes to check out the Tagan ITZ series*

Thanks

the ITZ series is up to 1300w just so you know.

the X38 motherboard is alot more up to date and can use Penryn core chips. 680i so far cant use Penryn chips.....

Couldn't see ITZ listed by the Tagan's in either Scan or Overclockers (which is where I am likely to purchase from)

This looks a good spec Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK is this the same as an ITZ range? Or are they very new and not around yet?

I actually couldn't find a locator on the site. The Global Sites link doesn't allow me to select the UK. When I type tagan.co.uk i get the scan.co.uk website and under the etailers link it only links to US etailers.

Am I being blonde here?

thats my recommendation

the Tagan ITZ series is the same as the original but with redesigned cooling and a smaller form. so i dont recommend other tagan models....

the Corsair PSU is very powerful so i recommend that one to you.

I actually bought the P182 only a month or so ago Like it a lot actually and it fits nicely, looks good and still seems to keep things cool.

I am looking to replace the fans when I upgrade with the uber quiet Noctua 120mm's

haha I had an FX55 a couple of years ago, the original 110W of heat ones and a Thermalright XP120 on it. When it was clear it could stay cool enough I changed the fan from an Akasa Amber 120 to a YSTech 120 which I could hear 2 rooms away!! hehe

lol sunon fans make a ton of noise as well.....funniest thing i have ever done was replace a fan on the built in power inverter in a camping trailer because the sunon that can with it would wake you up at night.....what idiot thought that was ok?......in any case i took apart the thing and clipped the fan off and transplanted a thermaltake fan in its place which made the thing not roar
