IDE vs. SATA 2 (3.0Gb/s)
Is this normal?
In my system i have a place a IDE segate 250 GB St325062 7200 RPM Drive. I also have a Western Digital Sata 2 3200JS 320 GB Drive Now i have installed vista x64 ulitimate on both ( just to see what one would get better benchmarks) and i was stunned to see the IDE win in most. I recieved higher pc mark scores with ide, better 3d mark, and better vista rating scores IE IDE =5.7 SATA =5.4 Whats up with this? anyone else experienece anything similar?

Going Insane.....

you are using two different drives and the seagate has better specs and it known to perform better........
IDE and SATA bandwidth is yet to be matched...... IDE is almost here though.... 7200.10s wont do it though.

Seagates 7200.11's barely break the sustained performance that IDE provides.
however what SATA provides is other benfits besides higher bandwidth.... NCQ and hotplugging.... plus with the more recent controllers.. excellent raid options that perform. i'd like to see 6 IDE drives pull of the HDtach score i recently rolled off

Why is it Beeping!?!?!
|
it all comes down to how good the actual drive itself is
and of course IDE and SATA both have their strengths and weaknesses I still wish that they continued to provide more boards with more than one IDE slot

Surprised no one else noticed... you're using the built in Vista benchmarks which are hardly thorough or revealing by anyones standards
![]() Try HDTach or something. As for the suggestion on drive... well the 7200.11's are hard to beat for performance, at least at 1TB. Failing that....WD is liquidating the Caviar SE16's to make way for GP drives so they can be had at really good deals, and not to mention, they're really fast, quiet, and cool running. |
