standby is messed up
I've had this problem for awhile now, but couldn't find a solution. When I put my comp into standby mode, the monitor turns off and my hard drive shuts down, but all my fans stay on and my cpu fan kicks into high speed. I've heard that it may be my psu, but this problem started a long time after I put in my psu. Any ideas/advice is appreciated, thanks.

thanks for the link, I went into my bios and changed the ACPI mode from S1&S3 to just S3 and that did let the fans shut off, but when I woke it my monitor won't resume, so I switched to just S1 and now I get monitor back, but the fans stay on when in standby...

That's just what happens with modern motherboards. The fans are just connected to +12V and the PSU has no control circuit to tell if the mobo is in a sleep state or not... so it just keeps them running. Since the mobo's BIOS unloads some things the CPU fan goes into high speed because there's nothing running to actively monitor and control/throttle down the CPU fan.
Maybe plugging the fans into the motherboard might solve this but it isn't 100%. Depends on the mobo. |

Well the mobo is just some cheap board that came in an eMachines desktop. What I don't get is why it worked fine with the same stuff I have now several months back, but it won't work now. The only connection I ever found to the problem was when I got an updated version of my omegadrivers.

Just use S3 standby. S1 doesn't really save enough power anyway. You may have to press the power button to get out of S3 (as opposed to a button on the keyboard) but it still loads faster than a normal bootup.

Ok, I never did try pressing the power button when I had set to S3, I'll try that, thanks.
