New custom PC won't boot?!
Hello,
I just built up my new PC. When I turn it on, I see all fans running and so are the DVD and HDD drivers too. I see led light in the mobo (obviously). I also see ASUS logo on my monitor which tells me that there's nothing wrong with the GPU either? So what happens is that I get big ASUS text and graphical texture/background with it and then text 'Press TAB to go to POST or Del to go to BIOS' or something similar. I tried pressing TAB or Del and nothing happened. I tryed waiting and nothing happens. It just keeps displaying the screen. My keyboard is also working since my keyboard has leds and they are on (Microsoft Reclusa). Specs: ASUS P5N-E SLI Mobo 775 650i 8800 GTX Intel Q6600 2.4 GHz 775 Tuniq Tower cpu cooler 3 Fans 3 USB devices 3 HDDs 1 DVD RW-+ Corsair 750W PSU (TX750W is the name) I hear no beeps and I think I should not hear as I have never plugged such cords/cables to my mobo...? New PC, no overclocking, first boot. Suggestions are welcome! Kai |

Going Insane.....

i think your problem is your keyboard, some dont work in the BIOS and i am not too sure about your model. do you have an old keyboard that uses the old legacy ports? try that.
also just something you might be interested, you should return your 8800GTX and P5N-E SLi and go for an 8800GTS and ASUS P5E both are superior components despite the name, the 8800GTS 512mb beats in every benchmark the 8800GTX and uses less power. the board you have has no support for future processors, not good if you want to extend the life of your machine

PC way TOO LOUD
Hello,
I just built up my new PC and I got it booted and installed windows etc but my PC is WAY TOO LOUD. I think it's near 50 db :S I cant even listen to my own heart in that noise.. I think it could be because all my case fans are at 12V ? I used the regular 4pin power cables to connect fans. Was that right? What should I do? I have Corsair TX750W PSU and it should not be that noisy, neither should my CPU cooler since it came with a fan controller and I tried the lowest speed. |

what fans you got there??? I got few noctua's 800rpm 120x120 fans and system is cool and not loud at all. That PSU should not be the cause of the noise... you could have some setting in BIOS to adjust the case fans rpm's

with my new pc i've got 5 fans (120mm x 4 & a 200mm) and the same psu as you. its really really quiet. that corsair psu is silent! i was pretty impressed. so i guess if yours is noisy it must be either be a) cheap rubbish fans or b) they are running too fast an you could try lowering the speed

Getting back to kris23s suggestion of the keyboard, some motherboards (a lot, actually) don't like USB keyboards for DOS work.. and that includes pre/post or bios work. Sometimes they will work briefly, sometimes not at all. The thing is that the LEDs on the keyboards will still come on, just that the keys won't work.
So, a suggest would be to use a USB to PS2 adapter for now, or hookup a PS2 keyboard, again just until you get the bios work out of the way. Also, it's quite possible that your system is freezing due to it overheating. Not because the fans aren't work, which it sounds like they are, but due to the heatsink not sitting right. Double check to make sure that the heatsink is actually installed as it should be. Last couple things: you didn't mention what ram you have. If you have 2 sticks of ram try booting the system with just one stick, and then the other just to rule them out. Finally, as a test you might also want to remove any IDE/SATA/Floppy cables connected to the board, again to rule them out. If it works fine, add a cable until you find the one that was messing things up. |
