Thumbs Up! [Solved] Wierd problem: no USB ports working & unable to install usb2 drivers :S

Hello,

My new PC does not recognize any USB devices, simply nothing happens. I have only one mouse that works trough USB so using only Keyboard to install stuff is hard, but I managed to get to the USB 2 driver installation wizard, however, it says "Does not support this Operating System: WNT_5.2 P" so what shall I do now?? I have x64 XP pro...

Could you tell us what mainboard you are using. You didn't give much info to work with there. The following is just a couple of WAGs that might help.

Have you tried re-installing the Mainboard drivers? That's where the USB drivers usually are. If you don't have the disk that came with the MB you can usually D/L the drivers from the MFG's web site.

If you are trying to install them manually, you have to make sure that you are installing the 64 bit ones and not the 32 bit versions.

Also, if you have a corded mouse you could try a USB to PS2 converter and see if that will work so that you can at least surf the net long enough to find the drivers you need.

there shouldnt be any problems with the USB ports unless the board is faulty, windows comes with its own drivers for most USB devices so you should run a mouse off it.

if it is faulty, i highly suggest upgrading your board to one based off of the Intel P35 or X38 chipsets, they are far better in performance and reliability than any Nforce chipset.

also you should get a different video card the NEW 8800GTS G92 card is more powerful than the 8800GTX in nearly every benchmark, its cheaper too

so really do think about it, you are getting more power and more money in your pocket.

I've done this a couple of times inadvertedly: Check the BIOS to make sure USB is even enabled. Sometimes going with Failsafe settings or after a bad OC makes my system use Failsafe settings, and usually, USB is disabled on that.
