Help me :)

Hello guys

Im not very into motherboards and memories so i have a question .. or two.

I am buying a Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and am looking for a good but not too expensive motherboard with DDR3 so please recommend some .
I am also wondering about those FSBs or what ever they are called i know this CPU has 1333 FSB so can it work on a motherboard that has a lower or higher FSB ? Also if my ram is 1357MHz will it work on a motherboard that supports 1333 and if so will it work on 1333 or ?

Finaly what is this CL7 CL5 etc. Is it the higher the better or the other way around ?

Thank you in advance

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

For E6750 CPU I recomend that you would get board that has intel's own chipset. Since they supports that 1333 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB). If your ram is rated to work at 1357MHz then it will work at the lover 1333MHz speed too. CL5 and CL7 are timings for RAM modules lower is the better in here. But if you go higher frequency the higher the timings will get.

For the mobos I would recommend these :
GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview - GA-X38T-DQ6 (rev. 1.1)
or
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

Thanks

Will that gigabyte motherboard work with this E6750 65nm and will it support some newer cpus (intel) for when the time comes to upgrade ?

Also what is the difference between rev 1.0 and rev 1.1 ?

It is based to the Intel X38 chipset and it supports E6750 and the future 45nm CPU's. For more details look the CPU support list from the GigaByte's site.

Difference in reversion isn't so big some changes in chip layouts and cooling are the most common changes.

All Intel X38's on both DDR2 and DDR3 platforms that already exists today will most likely support the upcoming Intel's 45-nm processors and 1600 MHz FSB processors.

no issues, if he gets DDR3 ram but for that I would seriously recommend at least E6700 cpu since that is DDR3 board and DDR3 is rather expensive...

hmm just wondered, any reason why you recommended at least E6700 processor?

and not E6850/E6750 or Q6600?

well I thing that if you are using DDR3 you need the cpu to have some power like E6700 has... but that's just my opinion ...

i know it's your opinion, that's why i ask for the reason why E6700, lol.

i think E6700 is now retailed at higher than E6850/E6750 or Q6600?

Well I was talking just in terms of performance not prize in retail ...

all Intel X38's boards are created natively for 1333 MHz processors,

that is a part of reason i ask you. i think the guy would be better of with a E6850/E6750 than E6700.

otherwise, Q6600 is currently the best bank for buck.

yeah... but X38 will work on 1066 Mhz CPU's too but lets not start to split hairs in here. ok?

If I'm not mistaken E6700 and E6750 are clocked at same frequency 2660MHz, the only difference is FSB that is 1066 and 1333... and since I was talking about overall CPU performance ... but in the end 1333 FSB CPU might be better choice

hey man, how much are you willing to spend on DDR3 and a new motherboard?

its not good to buy poor performing components only to replace them later.

D9 DDR2 is still better compared to low end DDR3, if you buy a good board like the GA-X38T-DQ6 or ASUS P5E3 Deluxe or ASUS MAXIMUS Extreme

and good DDR3 1800 like the Kingston HyperX 8-8-8-20, Super Talent Project X 1800 7-7-7-21, or Corsair Dominator 1800 7-7-7-20

you WILL have a VERY powerful platform to build on.

if you dont want to spend that much, i recommend a regular X38 board with Crucial Ballistix DDR2 memory

there are none since it will work with it. You might verify this by looking the CPU support list in Gigabyte's site

Hi again .. i now hear from a friend that DDR2 RAM can work on DDR3 motherboards and the other way around.
And he doesent mean a combo motherboard with bouth ddr2 and ddr3 slots but on any ddr3 motherboard as bouth ddr2 and ddr3 are 240 pin.

Any truth to that ?

that is absolutely wrong, the whole system is keyed so its physically impossible to install DDR2 on a DDR3 mobo...

why else are there combo boards?

I didnt buy any RAM i got 1GB Kingston HyperX 1375MHz CL7 DDR3 as a gift so it will stick around for a month or so till i get the $ to upgrade RAM a bit
I also didnt buy a GPU yet i have an x1950pro 512MB that iv been using for a while now . Ill upgrade that too as soon as i get the $ .. i figured the motherboard and the cpu are more important atm. Upgrading the GPU on an Athlon 64 3000+ is not a very smart move and i already have that DDR3 ram ram sitting in a box so why not get a DDR3 board

But thanks for the offer man
