My Insanely horrible bad luck.....

So I was on my way to my girlfriends house for some quality gaming on my pc with her cousin until I was walking out the door of my house. With my computer in my hands, I slipped down my icy front stairs and dropped my computer right on the back at the expansion slots. Sounds bad huh well it was since it creased the back of the case to make it look V shaped. Sounds worse now huh well it is. You see because it happened to impact right were my hd2900xt was installed. Now the tears are starting well up right? Well I picked it up and threw it in the car and proceeded to her house anyway in hope that by some sort of miracle it was fixable. Well not much to my expectations I managed to pry open the side panel to reveal the real damage. The impact had snapped every quick release clip to my DVD roms and HDD. Thats not the worst part though and since you actually seem to care what happened seeing how you have read this far I shall stop leading you on and tell you the worst part. The fall was so bad that it actually snapped the PCI-EXPRESS slot clean off the MOBO and my HD2900XT was just dangling from the two screws on the case. Yup so now I can't even use my computer unless I can find a regular PCI gfx card because th comp actually still boot i just can't see anything since i dont have onboard gfx, and I'm not even sure yet whether my card is still 2900 is still good. So now I need a new MOBO and I don't want to wast my money on another 939 board especially since there isn't even any quality ones left. So I need to upgrade to an AM2 or LGA 775 I haven't decided if I want to switch to Intel and Nvidia yet but it is tempting, But that means I also will need a new CPU and memory and I'm broke and it's killing me to not have my comp I had everything on there I don't even have cable since I would just watch movies on th pc. To top it all off my girlfriend just randomly called me today about 45 minutes after we made love in the shower and I left for work to tell me she wanted to break up. So now I am alone miserable and extremely bored with no games. If anyone has any spare parts you are willing to get rid off or part with for a small fee please help me out it would be so appreciated and I will obviously pay for shipping. Please hook me up I'm dying here I just got C.O.D 4 Modern Warfare and didn't even get to break the seal. Well Thank You for atleast taking the time to read my pathetic call of distress take care and may your life be better than mine.

"It's not the fall that kills ya; it's that sudden stop at the bottom."

At least, in your case, YOU'RE still standing.

I"m afraid I can't help you out in either department, either. Not any spare parts and I wouldn't even hint at what to do about the girlfriend. (Or, EX-girlfriend, as the case may be. The ONLY thing I could possibly advise is this: If she calls back and wants to make amends, RUN....as fast as you can...in the OPPOSITE direction!)

But, for what to upgrade to: Intel all the way!

What a cruel woman, dumping you after you had this much bad luck with your gaming system. Stay away from her.

And yes, Intel all the way. Make sure the mainboard supports 1333mhz

Hey thank you all for your input. Yeah I don't plan on getting back with her I think there is another guy in the picture anyway but whatever i've been down before but always manage to get back up. As for the comp it may be down for awhile at least until taxes come in.

yea.... go for an LGA775 system and go for one that supports 1333FSB, mainstream Intel 4X chipsets are coming with 1600FSB support.

Yup. I was checking Gigabyte site for driver updates and my mobo has a revision 2.1 with 1600FSB and 1200DDR2

Edit: Kris, did you build your rig yet? Last time you said you were still looking at an empty stacker...

Well here is some good news and bad news the bad news is that my HD2900XT is dead I tried it in my roommates comp and got nothing but lines colors and boxes even in the bios screen so the impact killed it. The good news is I managed to get my comp up and running with my old X850XT so I'm pretty happy to have it going and even with a decent gaming abillity. I have submitted a ticket to ATI/AMD to see about getting a replacement on my 2900. Hopefully they will replace it I only bought it in September 2007 and it is registered since day one so we'll see I guess.

i'd never take my pc out the house, i found it hard enough taking the external hard drive over to my girlfriends to watch movies i'd downloaded

least it gives you a good reason to upgrade to something better though.

as for your girlfriend, bad luck, but women can be strange confusing creatures. one minute all is well, next thing you know they are in a bad mood for no reason and want to break up. ive had it happen before

I really appreciate all your concern but I'm ok it hurts a bit as it will but eventually it goes away and then who knows what happens either way life goes on. On a more positive note I contacted Ati and got nowhere they say I need to go through Sapphire so I went to there support site and there is no contact information unless your in canada or europe nthing for the U.S.A it just says to go through the retailer which doesn't make much sense seeing how sapphire says it has a 2 year warranty and newegg where I bought it is only oneso I guess that means if your in the U.S you only get whatever the place you bought it from gives you. Anyway I called newegg and they were more than helpfull and gave me the RMA and I shipped my card out to them yesterday but the only thing that worries me is that their policy tates that if the product is no longer available which it is not on their site anymore that they will either replace it with something comperable or refund the current market value. That sux because I paid $389 for it and I think the last time I saw it on newegg it was much less so hopefully I don't get screwed.
