Near Final Rig Specs.

yea dudes..... basically the awaited day is coming closer, need some opinions on my upcoming machine.

the specs basically are to my left but ill just say it.

my mobo: GA-X38-DS4
my RAM: 4x1GB Transcend AxeRAM DDR2 1200mhz 5-5-5-15 2T
my CPU: temporary Intel E2140 Dual-Core CPU until 45nm processors are cheap and abundant.
my GPUs: Dual HIS HD 3870 IceQ3 video cards in crossfire
HDDs: Dual 500GB Seagate 7200.11s in RAID 0

and thats basically all the necessary internal stuff.....

all enclosed in the mighty Stacker 832 case

with my trusty old 600w 40A+single rail PSU

most of it i consider good, most are cheapest in class while still making good marks.

If you're waiting for the new 45nm then you could consider waiting for the new boards too...but then how long you want to delay...

That's gonna be a nice rig though. What are you going to be using it for primarily? Is it a gaming rig perchance?

lets just say the workload at the beginning of this semester was surprisingly high, i need it ASAP but very latest id say is February

but i think X48 aint coming till March or February due to some idiots paying Intel to postpone the launch.....

there are tons of people waiting for X48 whether or not they are extreme enthusiasts.

this machine is going to be my all-around machine, i want it to handle everything thrown at it. and i want it to do everything thrown at it all at once

i want it for gaming, work, media creating, editing, and just about anything i need it to do.

gaming is pretty much the most taxing thing for a system and i wanna do that too.

true that....I'm set back from the new mobo i had to throw in to replace my m2n-sli that all but caught fire (luckily not damaging anything else) and my case, along with the new 22" wide monitor on its way soon

yea man.... and i can finally get my grades on the right track with a stable system, i lost alot of work because my laptop overheated.......

honors courses at my school are taught by horrible teachers...... thank God im out of them now.....

lol that rig originally in my sig was something i never planned to get, but i did plan to get a system with DDR3 and a Maximus Extreme.... just alot less powerful, but i noticed issues with using 4 memory slots and thought i needed more memory than the tiny increase in speed. and i wanted more power at the beginning so i went with the cheaper stuff.

780i is the worst chipset i have ever seen when compared to others of its level.....

i wish it was a truly new chip instead of a cranked up 680i.....

i honestly want to get a nvidia based rig but the boards are horrid and rather expensive

the RAM just raised in price so i think im gonna have to get that this weekend before the egg raises them to $150+ like they always do...

im thinking of changing my DS4 for a DQ6 or maximus formula......among other things....

Do a price check against ZipZoomFly before you buy from the egg. They seem to do some pretty good deals.

(Although I can't be certain of how good their (ZZF) customer service is, I've never seen any major problems when looking through forums)

ill get 2x2GB sticks when the chips get better, they have already passed the 1100mhz mark which is pretty amazing

it seems..... only a matter of time till they get to 1200+

you know, i think DDR1 would blow the doors of DDR3, just if they kept making it faster and better.... lower latencies and whatnot.. seriously, i've got a some OCZ DDR1 that is still outperforming even some of the DDR3 i've seen.
