External hard drive always being accessed
I have a 500gb external hd, and sometimes it seems to cause a delay when i go in to OTHER hard drives, an sometimes when i open programs, which are in no way related to that external drive
why is my external hard drive being accessed when i'm using stuff on different hard drives? all i have on it is some movies and tv programs, no installed programs, so i have no idea why it would need to spin up an be in use unless i specifically use one of those movies or tv programs |

Make sure you have the indexing service turned off.
Right click on the hard drive, properties, and clear the box at the bottom about indexing. Click ok. You might need to reboot, don't remember.

no reboot needed, i'd just shut the indexing service all together
