Dual Channel RAM
hi guys. I have 2 of the exact same 512mb sticks on the first 2 slots for memory. When i stick in another TWO different brand name ram sticks in the other 2 slots, the system loads but all there is is a black screen. Is it only possible to run 4 memory sticks with the same model n brand?
Sorry for being A NOOOB lol. |

Dual channel systems can be run with different brand RAM as long as they are identically spec-ed. meaning 4 sticks of CAS 3-3-3-8 DDR 400 can run in Dual-Channel even if every stick is from a different manufacturer
every motherboard has 2 memory channels, every memory channel has 2 slots to it. usually a memory channel is shown with the color of the slots, eg. all blue slots are channel A and all white slots are channel B and similar.

Not to mention some mobo's don't work well with all slots filled with memory.
