??? New power supply

Like the subject says it´s time to change old crappy Codegen 300w to better one. So what are you recommending?

Here are my alternatives:
Antec True Power 330W (local price: 91 euros) homepages
Enermax EG365AX-VE(G) FMA 353W manual (87e) homepages
Fortron FSP350-60BTV 350W SuperQuiet (83e)

Like I said before I´m not going to buy any Codegen or Qtec. Those are the alternatives as far as I see.

It seems to me that Antec gives the most accurate voltages. But however Enermax adjustable fan control would be super...

So opinions are welcome...

Enermax or Antec, I've had both brands and they are great.

I agree with your choices, and own the Antec 430 True Power. Something you may want to consider is may something 400watts or larger just for future upgrades that you may do. It is better to have room to spare than maybe having to buy another one later on just because you dont have enough power. And a less taxed power supply will last longer as well.

Just food for thought!!

Antec TruePower all the way, if you value silence as well as stability. I'm not too familiar with the other brands, but I have several TruePowers at home.

But damn, Antec True Power 430W costs 126e! Huh, that would be then the most expensive part in my computer.

But I don´t really have choices. It´ll be cheaper to buy a good PS than buy a whole new computer when this Codegen blows up. Right now I can´t plug my second HDD at all. If I plug it, then both HDD:s starts to extinguish randomly. Yes, HDD works otherwise just perfect. So I´m really not exaggerating when talking about PS being close to blowing up.

OK, right now number one to me is Antec True Power 380W (115e). But before buying I really must take a look to my wallet...

I'm pretty sure you can go with a 330W. Heck, even with an Antec 300W SmartPower I could run four HDDs, a SCSI DVD-ROM, an IDE DVD-ROM, a Raddy 8500, a SBLive!, an Adaptec SCSI card, a NIC, a Promise controller, everything plugged on an ASUS TUSL2-C with a Tualatin 1,26GHz and 512MB of PC-133.

I only upgraded to the Antec TP 380W when I got my P4 core for that system -- and I'm almost sure it was overkill.

May be then I´ll go for 330w. My current system:

Amd TB 1333mhz
MSI turbo (6330)
512Mt sdram
80Gt Samsung Spinpoint
Lg cd-rw
Radeon 8500le
Soundblaster 128´
2 8cm fans

Well, that´s it. Plus additionally one 6Gt HDD.

In future I´ll probably go for Amd Xp 2xxx+ and Via KT400. 330w should be enough for that too. But on the other hand power is always power...

Or one option is to take Enermax. It´s a compromise of those Antecs. And it has also manually adjustable fans.

Sparkle 400GT - 400 watts of power, and it has been pushed, and tested to 580 watts , these are TRUE ratings here... They are built like a tank... and always work... throw anything you want at them. For the money (they are inexpensive) they are the absolute most powerful psu you can get. (they weigh like a tank too ... very very heavy)

Try to find the TTGI 520ss of the TTGI 420. It's a bang for the buck power supply. Also has a potentiometer inside of the PSU that you can give a little twist if you ever need a little bit more power on the 12v and 5v.

Channel Well Technology makes Antecs PSUs, am I right? So, there are also Channel Wells own PSUs at stores. So it´s a ideal oppoturnity to save some money? CW costs about half of Antec.

Does anyone have any experience about CWT PSUs?

I would go with antec

Enermax does not have a replacement policy. Anyways I am using an Antec PP510D (510 watts PSU for Tyan thunder K7). I have absolutely no power issues with this power supply.

later

pete

Changing to a wimpy 330W one, you won't see any difference from your 300W one... similar goes for 350W ones. You should get at least a 400W one, anything below is a waste of money.
Also, take a look at the specific data (especially 5V power, but also 3.3V and to a lesser degree also12V). A nice value would be around 40A for the 5V power.

I also have a Sparkle power supply. A 300watt one that has performed great. Even with a 9700 and a amd 2100 and such. Good power supply for the money.

I don´t sign this. 300w Codegen and 300w Antec/Fortron/Enermax are like from different planets. You really can´t trust specs that Codegen gives.

See for example Toms tests:
http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20021021/index.html
It´s a shame that Tom did not have this very common PSU (Codegen) in his tests.

When looking prices of PSUs and new cases, I thought that it´s wiser to order a whole new case. See:
http://www.antec-inc.com/pro_details...p?ProdID=15138 (Local price 138e, includes 380w True Power)
Specially 120mm fans would be really nice instead of these 80mm.
