New system advice requested. Multitasking/video encoding web type person

Hey all... chose this hardware based on the fantastic http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/intelV8/index.php review of the intel V8. I'm looking to encode a bunch of high quality video to FLV while i'm going about doing 4 or 5 other projects on my computer as the web specialist for my university. So i need the raw speed for the encoding as well as some multitasking fu for the rest of my work. (GIMP, 27 browser windows, two IMs, etc...)

While i realize that the V8 would be perfect, it's just slightly out of my price range... the other caveat, I need to buy from Dell

Here's what I've got... just looking for any comments

Intel™ Core®2 Extreme QX6850
4GB, 800MHz, DDR2 SDRAM Memory, ECC (2 DIMMS)
Dell 24 inch UltraSharp™ x2
PCIe x16 nVidia Quadro FX1700,
160GB SATA, 10K RPM Hard Drive x2 RAID1

wadday think?

looks good. But i would pick a bit newer quad core. The QX9XXX Series looks good. For os any 64 bit will do fine.

I'll second that advice...

I don't think Dell offers any of the newer processors yet.

Might also be worth considering 8gb of memory, depending on how heavily you expect to be multitasking.
