temperature cpu too low?

My current temp on the e6600 at idle are according to everest

can that be correct or is it too low?

I'm using air cooling, arctic freezer 7 pro with Arctic Silver paste.

that's pretty damn cold if it's accurate - touch the heatsink, see if it feels warm, if it does, those temperature readings are jut inaccurate, if it's not warm, well, that's another story

I'd say that these temps are impossible unless you have a very low temperature in your room...

well, i touched the heatpipes near the heatsink... couldnt get to the heatsink itself, was too cramped to get a finger in between. But it was pretty cold/not warm..
Is there any other monitoring software that would be able to display the correct temperature?
speedfan is notorious of giving wrong readings, but I thought Everest was pretty damn accurate. I'll try the monitoring thing from the intel site, and see what temperature it shows..

maybe I just got an incredible airflow in the case.. I mean, putting my hand in there (between exhaust fan and cpu fan) is pretty cold!

That intel monitor thing is only for intel boards, so I ran Speedfan and Core Temp. both are saying about the same...

I don't know what to believe..
3 programs saying the same.. I even overclocked the cpu slightly to 2.88ghz, and still that low temps.
If this really is correct I am hesitant to switch the cpu for a new one, because I could crank this one up like crazy till it's getting too hot.

But I'd like an accurate reading.. :S

Try CoreTemp or Intel TAT.

I ran coretemp already, it's next to the speedfan results.
Ran intel TAT, giving the same readings.. I guess the readings are correct..

nice program, I tried both cores 100% workload, they arent getting above 40C degrees

i wonder if the sensors just aren't calibrated?

Don't worry about it, temperature sensors in PCs are never particularly accurate.

how can I get accurate temperatures then?
Only way to get an accurate reading is to stuck a real sensor between cpu and heatsink?

It's just that I always thought those monitoring software was pretty accurate, give or take some degrees, and reliable enough to overclock a system, while watching it isn't getting too hot.

Motherboard BIOS'es are sometimes updated to improve the onboard sensor accuracy, but I don't think that the BIOS has an effect on internal CPU core probes as they are being read by the software. As the software isn't getting a straight temperature in degrees from the probes but instead a numerical value that needs to be recalculated into degrees, it's possible that they don't manage to identify that CPU model quite right. Or maybe the motherboard BIOS interfers there too after all.

See if the motherboard manufacturer has a BIOS update that lists changes to the temperature readings.

On the other hand as long as coolers are properly mounted as is obviously the case here, precise readings aren't that important even when overclocking. Because for instance a CPU will become unstable long before any dangerous temps are reached. One could also keep an eye on the relative increase even if the given values are incorrect by themselves.

Probably the best overall method is to get a thermal imaging camera, not that it's really worth the effort.

It's not the software that isn't accurate, it's the information that the sensors are sending. They are accurate enough for overclocking, since most overclocking guidelines give acceptable temperatures which are significantly below what the processors can actually withstand.

Sure, there are programs (speedfan at least, not sure about others) which allow you to add/subtract arbitrary numbers from the temperature. Not particularly useful unless you have a better measurement source to use in the calibration though.

the only time i'm able to get those kind of temperatures was when i was running the computer in sub -10*C abient temperatures...

Other then that.... if cpu idleing is still enabled.. there could be a possibility that the machine is in a state of nearly constant idle producing very very very little heat.. (i mean throttling.... as in it's droppin the cpu speed considerably)

what happens when you start running some cpu crunching power hungry apps....

well, When I overclocked the cpu to 2.9ghz i disabled that option where it lowers the multiplier when the cpu is idleing. so it is a constant 2.9ghz, and when I put the cpu at 100% workload, the temps get to +- 39*C.
My goal was to get this cpu at 3.6Ghz for 24/7, and a low temperature would be better of course. Ah well, I guess I won't run into any trouble because of heat.

I updated the bios not too long ago, so I don't think I missed any temp reading changes.

Lucky man!
I have the same CPU, at stock speeds and HSF, get 39C and 36C at just running some average windows applications.
Could you take a photogram of the inside of your PC?

When my room is about 65 degrees Fahrenheit, my CPU gets as low as 15 degrees Celsius. Sometimes on startup it's 9 degrees.

I'd say it's possible.

Air cooling cannot lower the temperature below ambient temperature. In most situations the tempeature of the air going into the cooler will also be a bit higher than the room temperature.
