Word on the streets is mid-April for ETA on more E8400 processors.

Check out the Xeon E3110, basically the same processor, similar price, should still be in stock in some places.

You could try eBay but they are a little more expensive.

some of the Wolfdales's (as well as Conroe's) can be undervolt quite a lot and can still be overclocked quite a bit at the same time,
some will need to be overvolted quite a bit in order to overclock it.

if you want to overclock the CPU, then nobody can tell you for sure whether the CPU will require more (or less) core voltage to overclock it until you get the CPU and try it yourself.

i understand that part, kinda how i lucked out with this 50 dollar processor @ 2.8 GHz, what i meant was is the default voltage of the Xeon E3110 lower than the default voltage of the 8400? i really am a newb to intel, i've had 5 different CPUs the last cpla years, 2 bartons, 2 sandiegos and this current toledo, all AMD, so bear with me through any obvious questions

also any opinionson the stock cooler that comes with the xeon or the 8400s?

and is there any significant difference between the xeon and 8400?

LOL is the xeon a wolfdale? or is just a xeon? sry!

the normal core voltage (or VID Voltage for motherboard to run the CPU at stock clock speed) for the E8x00 is 1.225V, and 1.250V for the Xeon ones, as far as i know.

but, once you overclock the CPU the normal core voltage won't mean much... depending on the motherboard and the CPU itself.
you just wise you get enough luck and get a good CPU.

if you can get E8400, i say get it better than the E3110, you just have to wait for it, lol.

The Xeons are different sockets. Wolfdale Xeon is 771.

i would not worry about CPU cooler for now. the Wolfdale runs cool and stays cooler than Conroe's.
once you get the CPU, of cause i assume you will buy the boxed CPU, you can use the stock cooler first, then get a better CPU cooler later if needed. this way you can take your time to find the better cooler that best fit to the board and your needs.

E8400 (Intel CPU No.1 hot selling in Japan, as far as i know), E8500 (No.2...), E3110 (No.3...), E8200 (No.4...)

E3110 is still available for selling in Japan's online market stores, but all the rest of Wolfdale's processors are just out of stock.

i think there are only some used CPU's available at this time.
