I had a request in from one of the women my mum works with for a new computer, not sure why, maybe the old one died i didn't bother asking. So i set about salvaging a Socket 478 Mobo, a 478 Celeron, 512mb of DDR400 memory and a Radeon 9550 i had lying around, put it all together in a spare case (yeah i have a lot of spare parts

) and powered it up.

All worked well, after some faffing in the BIOS i got the VGA coming out of the graphics card instead of the onboard video and did a clean install of XP and I'll install office '03 on it when i take it round to get set up

Now here's the best bit, i knew i was going to be paid for the job, i was expecting maybe £20, £30 at the most right. Well, mum got in and told me i was going to be getting £50 for the job, £50 for putting spare parts together, awesome!!

I guess both the OS and Office come with certificate of authenticity lol.

Anyway, enjoy your 50 pounds and do something clever with at least part of them. :-p

Heh, the XP Key was bought and paid for at some point because there's an authentic sticker on the case

Office is my mates, he gave me 03, dunno if he's got 07/08 now or what but i don't question the b/g when it's free lol

And the £50 is going towards a new mobile, mine's steadily dying out. Sometimes the buttons don't respond, doesn't always go off when i get a text/call, doesn't charge properly or hold it's charge very well and i just generally wanted something new

I guess it is not a bad idea. It is just that as I grow older I find the idea of mobile phones as nothing but a black hole sucking money for no good enough reason. Yes I have one (SE w810i) but I intend on using it till it explodes or refuses to work at all, and yes I rarely make any phone calls or send sms.

I would ask money for the hardware.
She is getting a PC for free, and while you are also getting 50 pounds without any expense, that is not the point. The point is that you can easily get more money. I would ask another 30 pounds for the hardware. 20 to make up for the money your father takes, and 10 for extra profit.

It saves you the hassle and disappointment of selling those old bits on e-bay, which would probably have taken you as long (or longer) than it did to build the system...
