I just upgraded...what do you think?

7600gt 256
3800+ single core
2gb PC2 DDR2 800 (6400)

To:
XFX 8800gts (320mb)
4800+ x2
2gb PC2 DDR2 800 (6400)

So what do you think? It ran me a total of about $130 after selling my old hardware.

I know it's not top of the line stuff but can I expect to run games decent at 1440x900?

Not a bad upgrade for that price.

As far as games go, it depends on what you are looking to run. Your system is similar to mine, and I run games quite well at 1280*1024. Most I run at high settings, with AF on. Crysis runs about 30fps, 1280*1024, mostly on high, which is pretty good.

Either way, I think you will be happy.

I run everything at 1440x900....so lower than you I believe. Or is that about the same?

You use aa and af or just af most the time?

That's almost the exact upgrade I made about a year ago. Went from the Skt 754(?) 3800+ to this AM2 4800+ Brisbane.

Only difference is that I'm using a 1950GT vid card. It's a nice upgrade. It cose me a LOT more than that, but I did get a new PSU, MB, RAM, Vidcard, and Case.

I have had this CPU pushing 3.0Ghz REAL hard. Was 2.9 something, and that was without playing with RAM timings and voltages. I'm sure that I could get it to 3.0 if I tried real hard, but I'm not really big into OCing.

This 1950 is going to be replaced with a 3870 x2 shortly, and I just might OC a bit again to see what benchmark numbers I can get.

Well the way I see it is that with upgrades like this (cheap) that keep me up to date it's easy to stay in the pc game world. I mean $130..that's good stuff.
