How can I speed up my pc?

hello all

i have a pentium 4, ati hd 2400 pro agp 8x, machine with about 2 Gb of ram. i am wondering if there are any ways i can speed up my pc without having to buy new hardware or overclock. i am a gamer, and i am getting a high end machine this summer, and i want to make this one last until then. i constantly update drivers and i defragment also.

i am open to any and all suggestions!!!!

I think that there aren't any ways other than OC your rig to get more performance out of it. And that Pentium 4 is seriously bottlenecking that HD 2400 card.

Yeah, without OCing, there just isn't anything you can do.

About the only thing that would help is to make sure that you have a nice clean install of your OS, and make sure that you don't have anything installed that you don't absolutely have to have.

You didn't say what OS you are using, but if you are using Vista, you can use a USB flash drive in ReadyBoost, and that will help some. If you are using XP, then that doesn't apply.

yes i am using xp

i am new to overclocking and i really dont want to burn out this computer before this summer.

i am willing to try to oc my p4 if you guys could give me a safe way to try it. the default speed is 2.4 ghz, but my comp is an hp and it may be locked in the bios.

my hd 2400 is an agp model, and i have had no sucess oc ing it.

I know that

As I said your CPU is too slow for that card. In other terms it cant process data fast enough for the card you have.

As far as overclocking.... did you put this system together yourself? or is it a premade from like Dell/HP/Gateway and the like? If its one you put together yourself, we would also need to know what board you used and what settings are available in BIOS.

Being a P4 I am guessing its gonna be a prescott and a flamethrower at that.... without 3rd party cooling I would not attempt to overclock it.
