two possible build that i am considering....thoughts?
Intel build:
DFI motherboard (DK X38-T2R LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard) Q9300 (Q9300 Yorkfield 2.5GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80580Q9300) Corsair RAM (XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX) also with intel i really don't know a whole lot. I've been hardcore AMD for so long that I really don't know what is compaitble with what. AMD build: DFI motherboard (DK 790FX-M2RS AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard) Phenom (9550 Agena 2.2GHz Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core Processor Model HD9550WCGHBOX) Corsair RAM (XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX) edit: some basic specs in quotes if you don't feel like clicking on the links ![]() let me know if there are any combinations of processor motherboard and RAM that are better in the same general price range. I've been out of the front line of product for a few months now and really don't know where to start up again everything is so shiny. In any case the AMD build is up there because I have always liked AMD's stuff but i hear that the Phenoms are basically fail.THOUGHTS?

seeing that there are no replies here I am going to assume that posting up specs of a machine and asking others' opinions on it isn't really ok. Haven't been on here in awhile so never mind on that whole thing. In any case I'm going to go with an intel build for sure now unless there is something that i don't know about AMD that I should. Now, my only real question is about compatibility. What chipset is best suited for my choice of the Yorkfield lines of processor? I really am lost when it comes to the intel side of things. Just a point in the right direction would be helpful

i think DFI LP "DK" is a lower cost model of the UT/LT model boards,
however, since DFI provides on all DFI LP UT/LT and DK models that based on Intel P35-X48's a very good CMOS setting options for overclocking both CPU and RAM, so their boards are at the top choices of many overclockers as far as i know. i also heard that DFI "DK" "T2RS" both P35 and X48 boards are pretty good overclocker for C2Q's processors, but i cannot confirm that this is also include the Yorkfield that are available today. when the new P45 based boards in retail stores, i would expected to see that there are quite a few of the boards that can perform better in terms of overclocking the Yorkfield's. Definately go Intel, Intel are dominating the market top bottom left and right atm with top performance components at a miniscule price.
Plus they overclock better, have a lower thermal output and use less power. AMD have got some serious ground to gain, the Phenoms were a desperate last attempt at getting back into the market. Now they need to win us back with some LEGENDARY performance graphics cards at a MINISCULE price

go intel but id swap out the Q9300 for a Q6600 if you are gonna do some serious OCing...... the core is too new and doesnt OC too good, lower multiplier too....
also get rid of the POS COrsair CAS 5 RAM and get either the Crucial Ballistix 2x2gb sticks or COrsair CAS 4 2x2GB sticks.... everything else is good

ok RAM has been changed out for the crucial Ballistix 2X4gb kit. Its also a little cheaper than the corsair so thats always a plus and I've changed out the york for a kents Q6600
so as soon as the RAM comes back in stock we will be in business

I'd still consider the AMD machine. It won't be AS FAST as the C2D/Q but it will still be plenty fast. Its tooooo fashionable to bash AMD these days
. Granted Intel is producing the better processor but there's really nothing wrong with AMD's stuff. Its all rock solid and very well thought out. By no means are Phenom's a fail, except in the fact that they failed to take the top performance crown from Intel's flagship CPU.Either way I commend the use of DFI motherboards in both cases. Great mobos. |

yeah that is my thought on the DFI boards i've always had good luck with them. As far as the AMD system goes though its more expensive so that is another reason that i am currently going with Intel. The AMD system that I speced out on Newegg came out to around 500$ american (mobo proc ram) and the intel came out to a little over 400$ american. So seeing as i could use the extra cash im going to stick with Intel this go around
