Video card problems

I've been having issues with my video card for a while, typically severe graphic corruption in video games, as well as the games crashing and delivering an error along the lines of "no direct3d card present" and such. I tried updating drivers using the new omega drivers and after restarting from the install, the desktop was the normal res, but most of the icons were gone, alot of text was missing, and there were problems all over the place, even the shut down screen was missing its bottom section... Started it up again, and it went to 640x480, 16 colors, and i went through the steps to redefine the monitor drivers, and it still would not change off that resolution and color status...

Sounds like eitheir windows is corrupt (unlikely) or the graphics card is faulty.
I believe i had a similair problem with a Radeon X1550 that had a damaged GPU. i'd suggest sending the card off for RMA.
What card is it btw?

The card is a Visiontek x1600 XT XGE 512mb it didnt always have this problem untill a few months ago i play counter strike alot and oddly enough, if most games give me the error, CSS still works... albeit in an odd manner it will start, but text will go crazy, textures often disappear altogether and the model turns black then after another round finishes and it tries to load the next, it crashes

yeah as mousey said it sounds like your card is dying =(. Could be something else though. Try updating some drivers first and see if there is any improvement.

Unplug the PC. Open tha case, remove the graphics card, blow hard into the graphics card slot on the mainboard (but no spit), do the same on the graphics card itself. Plug it back in carefuly and firmly. Close the PC case, plug in the PC. Try again.

Oooo.. the old "blow hard" trick.

I would also blow hard on the fan to clear any dust out. Just remember to inhale so you don't pass out... unless are into that sort of thing.
