Anyone got experience taking out a CPU fan for a Socket 478 mobo?

Quite a bizarre one this. I have an ASUS P4S800 mobo, and I just bought a new CPU, but I can't figure out how the fan comes off!

it's weird, it has two levers on it that you can lift up and it loosens, but it won't come free. I don't know fully what's holding it in place but I've tried fiddling with it (within reason) and no amount of gentle twisting, pulling or anything has any affect!

I checked the mobo manual and it doesn't even mention the fan, and a quick google check turned up nothing, so I'm at a bit of a loss.

Hopefully someone will have a socket 478 mobo and know what I mean - and help me!

Those two levers you mention.they hook onto the supports that are attached to the mobo.

You need to make sure the hooks on the lever come completely free. You may need to push down a little to free them, once one side is clear the opposite hook should come of cleanly. But do this gently and don't force it.

Repeat the above for the other side.

When this is done these levers should come away from the fan leaving the heatsink still in place over the cpu.

For the heatsink very Gently lift the heatsink straight up without twisting it.It's been sometime since i had a 478 mobo and im sure the cpu had pins on it.Which is why i am saying don't twist it.

As i say its been a long time so this is just of memory...

PangingJr I don't know if it's just me but the link dont work.

for some reason the above link wouldn't working with IE on my first click on it as well (IE displays "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"),
but it seems to work fine when using Firefox, Opera, Safari, Seamonkey. for IE, however, the page will display correctly after refreshing the page.

there are latches on the side that need to be unhooked to remove the CPU, loosen the levers on the top then, push down on the brace and unfasten the latches on the four sides, simply pull them out to the side
