This is WDs 2nd year in the 2.5" drive business, and so far they have been met with high praise. WD is putting a lot into their 2.5" drives as they want that side of the business to succeed, and as such the quality of those drives has been pretty damn good compared to more established 2.5" or 1.8" drive manufacturers. Seagate, Toshiba, and Hitachi.. I've had trouble with all their 2.5" drives this last year, but WD's.. not a complaint.

Yes, Seagate announced 1.5TB drive on 4 platters. Sounds good, I was looking forward for a 2TB drive this Summer, but I guess it won't happen.

I feel funny saying this but how much space do you need?! Do you realize that 3 of those 1.5TB drives in JBOD or RAID0 and you can't even get Windows to make a single partition out of it? (Efficiency arguments aside, I'd bet that you'd get problems with even two of them but 3 of them would definately do it).

And why would I do that? First of all I have never used and never plan to use RAID.
Second, even my current 300 and 500 GB drives, I have in different partitions, so you can be sure I would do that for the 1.5TB drives.
Also, while I do plan to buy 1-2 drives by September, how did you know it? :-p

BTW, why would Windows have a problem? You are not talking about Vista, are you?

Oh and to ask your question, I would love to have 4TB on 2 different drives now, one for use and one for backup.

well running 6TB total.. it's not difficult to fill up quickly..

while windows/programs/games will consume on average 100-250gb ... the files downloaded/backed up have consumed over 500gb so far, and ripping BR/HD dvds as well as lossless Music leaves you with well, very little for room.

with the average HD DVD ripped equally 20gb-30gb and BR DVD 25gb - 50gb, it doesn't take many to consume 500gb (10 movies give or take), 3tb is about 60 movies.

The NFTS filesystem has a maximum size of 4TB. Windows uses NTFS. There's your problem

I don't know... I can see using these for backups but talk about putting all your eggs in one really really really big basket
