when did DDR3 come out?

i don't see DDR3 used in any computer builds from dell or whatever. most systems are still DDR2. or am i wrong? has it just been released? im hoping it'll drop the price of DDR2 rams. I'm trying to look for a 2gb dual channel kit for ~20 dollars on sale. The only ones I see are the crucial ballistix which everyone says dies consistently.

It's out.

Dells suck, hence they don't use DDR3.

You're not gonna find something good in DDR3 for 20 dollars, anyways. It's still fairly expensive to get, as far as I know.

You would know if DDR3 is out if your computer supported it, anyhow, so why on Earth are you looking to buy a kit?

Unless I read that completely wrong and you're looking for a DDR2 kit.

Have you been sleeping for the past year? As DDR3 has been around for over a year already, pretty much the time P35 chipsets were released. And DDR2 drop in price? Not likely, it is already cheap as dirt.

I built a computer about 5-7 years ago and stopped following all these tech stuff. i remember buying a HP computer way back. just after a month of buying it, intel P4 came out and the computer we bought dropped 1000 dollars. I have bad luck like that. so I wanted to ask.

I know DDR3 is expensive, I wasn't asking if those were going to be 20 dollars. I notice that crucial ballistix are on sale for cheap often, but thats probably only because of how screwed up they are. just wondering if anyone has seen something else for around 20. like corsair XMS, theres a kit of 2x1gb 800 for 33 right now, but I have time to shop around for parts.

IMO DDR2 RAM is getting toward the bottom of the curve so you will most likely not see a further drop in price before the inevitable slow rise in price as the slower DDR2 is phased out for faster DDR2 and DDR3.
