Final stages of HTPC build, questions.....

OK, so the HTPC is almost complete (780g/SB700)
I was wondering if any has looked at, or has one of these:
HD PVR Product overview

Looks like a good solution for HD video from a cable/sat box.
I know a DVR would be better, but the available cablebox DVR is proprietary, so I have no access to the actual video files.(unless i void warranty/terms of service etc.........)
Any thoughts or opinions?
