HD3850AGP + Intel P3?

Received my shiny new HD3850agp card from the DH competition..

anyone think sticking it in the following machine is crazy?

intel p3 1ghz
1.5gb PC133 SD Ram
40gb HD
Hercules Digifire 7.1 sound card
500 watt psu (damn, didn't realize the card took a 8 pin pci-ex connector)

maybe i'll see if i can get it working on something even older... would that be something from a P2 series machine.

intel p3 1ghz !?!?!?

Well, at least the vid card won't be the bottle neck on that system

Putting Vista on it? I remember loading up XP on on old system I had just for giggles and grins. It had a Cyrix 486SLC 40hz with 16 meg of memory

XP would run on it, but it was painfully slow, and you could almost hear the processor screaming for help

indeed

vista works very well on a intel p3 733 so 1ghz should be plenty fast

Sssshhhhhh...

I actually have Vista Ultimate running on the 1.2 Athlon - it runs sluggish but ok - just over 1.2G of ram...

The OS is worth more than the entire computer!!!

When you get that 3850AGP installed - have you decided what game you gonna use to wring her out with?

Ya know, I'm suspecting you've got a likelihood with that relatively strong video card of beating the 2Ghz Core Duo/ATI 1600 Pro/2G Ram combo in my MacBook Pro - maybe, could be, well - if the installer will allow it - I can't remember if it checks and I haven't tried to put it on the Athlon system. 1400x900 resolution is what I've got - if you want to compare...

Yeah, I can imagine that 3850 would really be a nice match for the 3.2 P4 CD's.
